Re: Record Watch 23/24

Labouring the point a bit now, lads. Anyway, to return to the original point, ours is a Football League record and the Football League is a fully full time league, whereas all divisions below are not. It's a clear and obvious point of demarcation. I’m quite happy for a nil-nil draw to be declared a...

If I knew how to upload a photo, I would post the relevant part of my current Employment Contract. It states that "..it is a condition of employment that employees will not either directly or indirectly be employed, or concerned with any other business, trade or service (whether or not underta...

Re: Record Watch 23/24

There is a world of difference between a player being encouraged to consider a new career post-retirement, and someone who has a full time job and plays professional football as their 2nd job. Also, if you look at your employment contract there is almost certainly a clause in it preventing you from...

Re: Record Watch 23/24

When there were two types of leagues there wasn't any semi professional teams as no player was allowed to be paid in the amateur clubs/league. There were allowed to be paid for "expenses", which I think became such a minefield that Amateur was dropped by the FA and allowed all clubs to pa...

Re: TAKEOVER *NOT* CONFIMRED

An email list is a forum? Of course, you discuss things on it. It’s not as instant as a web thingy but it was all we had in those days. You're old aren't you. You're wrong. I don’t think I am, but I wasn’t looking for a fight over it ! It was a light hearted throwaway line but it seems some people ...

It’s online and it’s a forum.
Seems conclusive…..

Re: Record Watch 23/24

When I was a lot younger there were professional and Amateur leagues. The difference was in the latter, the players did not get paid and in the professional leagues they did. My dictionary states the difference between the two is :- Amateur "a person who engages in a pursuit, especially a spor...

Sutekh 13 straight league wins from the start of a season is currently the football league record. This record seems to get forgotten far too much being in the shade of 106.

Is that a league record or a professional football record?

It may also be better than any rugby or cricket club have done….

Re: Record Watch 23/24

If 'professional' means getting paid any amount to play, what would that leave 'semi-professional' to mean? Paid half the time? Paid in agricultural produce rather than money? I think most people understand professional to mean that the game is the player's main occupation, enabling them to dedicat...

Re: Record Watch 23/24

Well its not redundant as most would take "professional" to mean football is their main job, they train daily etc though may have a secondary form of income. I had a friend I used to work with who played for Hayes & Yeading amongst others, he was paid a weekly amount from them but it ...

Re: Record Watch 23/24

Our 106 season remains the professional record in England. The National League isn't a completely professional division - this season Maidenhead, Dorking, Wealdstone and Oxford City are all semi-professional sides. On the flip side, there are three professional clubs in the National League North (S...

Re: The Magic Number Thread

I don't know about no magic number malarkey. My method is to wait until the end of the season and see where we are in the table. Works every time. Not if points deductions come into play….. Famous last words but they really shouldn't now - HMRC and wages appear to have been paid on time in March me...

Re: Record Watch 23/24

If that league counted then it would already have been beaten. Wrexham got 111 last season and Notts County finished 2nd on 107. National League doesn't count. Quite, it's a football league record - the all time record at any level in England is AFC Wimbledon's 130 points when winning the CCL Premi...

Re: Embargos, HMRC Payment defaults, non payment of wages, the usual under Dai Wrongge

Arguably we'd chosen to breach it before we signed it and certainly by the end of the summer transfer window. But surely until it was actually breached there wasn’t an issue ? I know there are some offences in which you can be accused of planning to do something or conspiracy but I don’t think this...
