Most underrated/"does a job" player for Reading?

Oliver Norwood.

Defensive midfielders who have good technique, good positioning and don’t sprint much get accused of being lazy showponies.

Defensive midfielders with poor technique, poor positioning and who run around a lot get praised for doing the dirty work that doesn’t get noticed.

In practice for most of the last decade the lazy showponies have been the ones doing the dirty work. Norwood is the best example.

Gunnarson for me doesn't tick the box because he was highly rated by most fans.

Andy Hughes is a good shout, Primarily a central midfielder but at the club he also took on the roles of winger, left back, right back and scape goat. Always put the team first.

The manager had both right backs (or maybe it was left backs) out injured so Hughes put his hand up and said he'd played that position before in his youth for the benefit of the team, knowing full well it wasn't his best position, he was likely not going to have a great game and would get the boo boys on his back.... as it turned out, he wasn't actually that bad.

For me Norwood was in the wrong team at the wrong time. He was clearly a good player but his style was at odds with his team mates and the manager. When he left it was disappointing but understandable.

I second that, although there have been many players over the years in the same situation, but I couldn’t be bothered to even begin to rattle off their names.
