CONFIMRED - Jake Taylor to Exeter

Midfielder signs a permanent deal with League Two Grecians
24-year-old midfielder Jake Taylor has been allowed to leave the club to this afternoon join Paul Tisdale’s Exeter City on a free transfer.

Taylor came through the Royals’ Academy ranks from the age of eight to make his first team debut in a 3-3 draw at home to Northampton Town in a Carling Cup clash back in August 2010.

He went on to make 16(+20) appearances for Reading, scoring three times – in between loan stints at Aldershot Town, Cheltenham Town, Crawley Town, Leyton Orient and most recently Motherwell north of the border.

However Taylor’s most successful loan spell came at St James Park with the Grecians themselves, making 26 league starts and scoring three goals during City’s 2011-12 League One campaign.

His loan spell at Fir Park has been brought to an early end to allow Taylor to immediately link up with the 13th placed League Two side, who face Hartlepool United this weekend.

Everyone at Reading Football Club would like to wish Jake the best of luck in his future career.

Not unexpected but very much out of the blue, asked Charles Watts if there were any add ons, he said it was just a free transfer, guess the club are just allowing him to move on.

Big mistake. Jake Taylor was the most talented youngster to come out of our academy, we will regret this.

No ambition from the Thais.

In a few years he'll suddenly pop up doing well at a Championship rival, and we'll be asking ourselves just why we thought he wasn't good enough to get a chance here.

Yes. I am confidently predicting we'll be no higher than the Championship in the next few years

Good club Exeter, I like them. Went to the DIdcot FA game and they had some good players. Namely Troy Brown the centre back

Damn, knew we should have got rid of Kuhl, Keown, Fosu, Tanner and Stacey instead.

Wasn't he out of contract at the end of this season anyway? Certainly when he went out on loan for the season everyone seemed to think that was it for his time with us.

Best of luck to him anyway. Hope he can work his way back up the leagues.

Not really, with both him and Cox we knew they were good players, they just weren't quite ready for the first team and wanted to move on to get football.
With Taylor I think it's been clear this is not his level and a move makes sense. I hope it goes well for him but I can't see him popping up in the Premiership in a couple of years time.

The fact that he played so many games for us just shows what a weak squad we had last season. Nice chap mind. Good luck Jakey.

Good luck to the lad-that is probably his level.
Maybe we will see a few more moving on this week.

Very pleased for Taylor. In truth his failed loan at Motherwell at SPL level suggests that he is not ever likely to be Championship standard and so Exeter is a good move for him and for the club to offload a wage.

Good luck to him and I hope works out.

I liked Taylor, didn't really get used in what I thought would be his best position though.

Wasn't at the standard we needed. He'll inject some needed quality at Exeter and I'd expect him to be plying his trade in League One within 3 seasons.

Might still progress to this level. Best of luck Jake.

2 goals, 3 assists in 1,348 minutes at Championship level for Reading.

One is Jake Taylor. One is Matej Vydra.
Can you guess which is which?

Clearly neither is Vydra.

He's 24, didn't cut it in any of his loans spells bar Exeter, so not surprised to see him go back there. Can't see him playing in the Championship again, League 1 max. Good luck to him however

Thought he'd end up in League One, not League Two. Shame he didn't cut it here, especially when you see the likes of Simon Church rob a living at this level. Good lad. Wish him all the best, and a decent club too, Exeter City!
