Fulham's away end

by LWJ » 19 Apr 2012 12:33

I've been wondering this for a few weeks, the away end is mixed with 'neutrals', but it always seems there are Fulham fans in there. Why is this? Why is it not segregated?

The away end and the neutral end are different. They are are next to each-other, granted, but you're correct in that the supposed 'neutral' end usually contains a mixture of both home and away fans.

Spot on, although I'm not sure why you say "supposed" neutral end - it is a neutral end ie. not allocated specifically to either set of supporters.

I've been in it and it worked pretty well, had a good time. No idea if they get much trouble in there or not. One presumes now.

It is a unique thing having a neutral section. The (open) concourse and access gates are shared with the away supporters, so I guess it's good for a neutral to experience a better atmosphere or an away team with a large following to overflow into it.

Either way it seems to work pretty well.

It's all semantics really, if Fulham didn't want to confuse the likes of lwj they should have called it the integrated or universal stand or something

I think he was hoping it would kick off there and he could join the ruck

Integrated and universal are a bit long if they're trying not to confuse lwj.

Saw Fulham on Sky the other night and Martin Tyler (was it?) said that they only open it up to neutrals if it doesn't sell out to home fans first. It's a gr8 idea anyway and more clubs should do it - although I'm not sure how much take up there would be outside of London-based Premier League clubs :?
