discussion forum, so thats what this is-

apologies

i didnt mean to sound like i wouldnt take it on board if its a valid comment. it just wasnt.

seeing as im a reading fan, and am aware of all coppells buys, good and bad, it seems to me that there just isnt enough evidence out there to make me change my mind, no matter how forcibly the point is put.

owusu, brooker, ferdinand, keown, halls were/are all rubbish for us
and ive never said they werent-although i question whether they were ever anything but stop gap solutions.

they dont make coppell a bad manager-his record for us compares to anyones-and i stand by that

my point was you can list the bad buys for any manager-coppells list compares so favourably in terms of success vs cost that any argument to the contrary is just daft-feel free to crack on and try though

Mr Hoppy Plus as much as you may not have liked him - Owusu did a job for us.

so did Annie Basset, and I think she could have scored more goals too, given the chance.

Wasn't Owusu's goal per game ratio better than the overrated Forster's?

He defo did a job for us.

This is where the story ends:

Reading boss Coppell decides against Johnson
tribalfooball.com - December 05, 2006

Reading won't be following up their interest in Kansas City Wizards striker Eddie Johnson.
The USA international recently had a trial spell with the Premiership club, but The Sun says Reading boss Steve Coppell has pulled out of a £2million move for the forward.

Was this ever confirmed by the club?
I don't recall seeing anything on the OS.

Coppell stated in the EP that it would be going no further IIRC.

Johnson has just made MLS history by scoring hat-tricks in 2 consecutive games

He has 9 goals in 9 games. Hopefully MLS won't demand too much for a transfer fee now that he's healthy and back to scoring goals. I think the Reading trial really must've helped him so hopefully he'll keep it in mind when looking for a new club.

Did it against the two best sides in the conference --New York and New England-- other than his own, which now sits atop it thanks in no small part to EJ's heroics over the last two weekends.

Then they'd better have talent in abundance surrounding him if they expect him to make any difference whatsoever.
