This will be an excellent short term signing. Hopefully Sodje will go the other way.

That Friday Feeling
G'La
That Friday Feeling DOOBS ON HIS WAY TO ROYALS
Stoke City were chasing an experienced Premiership defender today to replace skipper Michael Duberry ahead of tonight's transfer deadline.

Good cover if true but I hope this isn't a "record signing"

I feel sick :?

More detail here- big offer, no deal yet...

Michael Duberry, for over £2.5m? Oh dear lord

With Duberry it says we tempted them with a very big offer. That's really not how this football club does their business, we don't go in a make tempting offers, we never pay a penny more than we have to. The Chairmen wouldn't have it any other way...

There is NO way we will break our transfer record for Duberry. Maybe a fee of £500K would be reasonable for a player who could still do a job but who's best days are behind him.

Only Neil Warnock would do something that stupid.

We've bid the amount stated in his contract which allows him to talk to us - I doubt it's a huge sum. I will be shocked if Doobs turns out to be our new record signing.

So this ONE signing, and a new transfer record is...?

And anybody think that Doobs could be the kind of signing that could be just what John Halls needs to settle/play to his best?

It's looking like it's going to be Duberry. In talks with Reading at the moment according to Sky Sports News.

Agreed, I think this is an opportunistic signing with Sonks out for a while and Bennett not match fit/unproven at this level.

If we are going to break our transfer record then I am certain it will not be on Doobs. Gera or Barnett are far more likely options for that, although £3million for Barnett

Esp. having signed 2 CB's in a day (should Doobs go through).

Reall can't see this being true, we have just signed 2 defenders, any more would make us top heavy in that department! How ever i wouldnt turn down Barnett chap as he's young... even so...

can't imaine us signing any one else... i know theres talk... but we're scoring plenty of goals, so i doubt it will be a striker... and have enough depth in Midfield....

skipper and have enough depth in Midfield....

So apart from Gunnarson, AHrps and Sidwell, who else at the club is central midfielder who could come in and do a consistant job?

Halford? - apparently he has played there for England youth quite a lot.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greg_Halford

He gained the reputation of being a 'utility man' having played in defence, midfield and attack for club and country. Although he has stated that his favourite position is central midfield

Why does a signing have to be exciting?

They just have to come and do a job and with Duberry we are getting someone who won't take time to settle in to the Premiership.

Chairman John Madejski added, "I'd like to welcome Michael to Reading. He is a high calibre performer who has been in excellent form this season and will add experience to our squad.

"This completes a busy period of activity for us in the transfer window and we are very satisfied with the deals we have secured."

That's it then.
