78/9 was my first 'proper' season too. Went with the neighbours for Doncaster in September and was hooked. Highlights were 5-1 Northampton at home ( pretty sure it was on Southern telly - anyone got it?) in February and Pompey and Aldershot over Easter (both 4-0 but I may be wrong). We seemed to win...
That's terrible news. I have kids late 20s / early 30s, I cant imagine what you're going through. I am an occasional poster but long time reader, SIAGSs academy team news will be sorely missed. RIP..
Even my missus who has about as much interest in football as I have in synchronised swimming, is appalled by the latest shenanigans. When I told her we (RFC) are the 6th oldest team in England and may well go out of business in the summer, her words were "that must be illegal" . No, but I ...
Odd! Their previous manager, Westley, was a right gamemanship merchant too, a bit of a winder- upper to say the least. Like you say, probably at their peak this season anyway.
Blackett - Overrated, just because he came through at Man Utd does not make you a good footballer. I must say though he was mostly played at LB when he was really a central defender. Guthrie - Same as above, Liverpool instead of Man U Underrated - HRK, McCarthy, Pearce, Obita (yes, all academy produ...
Is Alex Pearce still playing, always thought he could be a premier league playrr, albeit a slow one, a bit like say James Tomkins or Rob Holding? Anyone remember Simon Church? Pierce Sweeney is I think playing for Exeter , Sean (not Shane ) Long at Oxford, Niall Keown, Aaron Kuhl, Jake Taylor? Not ...
Agree. good when he first arrived but mediocre (sometimes worse than that) since. I've said it before and I'll say it again, his biggest problem is his almost total one-footedness ( his right).
Lads You seemed to have forgotten most contracts run intil June 30th so I am sure the powers-that-be have some irons in the fire for Thursday. It is very true we need a LB and some midfielders, but watch this space!
I'm a bit of an old timer too, this is the worst atmosphere at the club in over 40 years bar the end of Stam's time. The Elm Park days had less expectation so the bar was naturally set lower.
Blackpool’s last win in Reading was on 26th April 1980 (anyone on here go to that?) which means a current run of 15 league visits and no wins. I did indeed go to this, the last game of the season between 2 mid table teams with nothing to play for. Anorak time - my main memory is seeing Lawrie Sanch...
