Re: The Snowball stat thread

Given that every team seems to have good and bad spells in a season- an injury, a seemingly tough series of games, whatever... If our "bad run" of 4pts from games 1-6, had been replaced with the results we had say games 21-26, would we be in a substantially different place now? Am I missi...

Re: The Snowball stat thread

I'd suggest there are significantly more factors involved in determining the result of a football match than there are in how fast one person runs round an athletics track. Yes, of course there are - wouldn't dream of suggesting otherwise. The point I'm trying to illustrate is that it is not unreas...

Re: The Snowball stat thread

Just to fan the flames of the 'first 6 games excluded from stats to demonstrate point re form' argument: Quote from Brian McD in the Grauniad/Observer after yesterday's game ""Looking back over the last 32 games we have got something like 69 points so that would put us top of the league. ...

Re: The Snowball stat thread

Stroud - somewhere in this thread I've already done an analysis where I picked out each side's worst 6 game run and eliminated it from their overall season performance - iirc it relegated Reading to 5th in the 'form table' at the time I did it. This will obviously have changed a bit now as our exce...

Re: The Snowball stat thread

How about Cummings as a trigger? How about "A new FB pairing" as a trigger? Easily rejected seeing as we have continued to be great with Cummings out of the side and Left Back personel have been even more changeable in that period. As have Tabb & Church being in the side. Don't look a...

Re: The Snowball stat thread

I've looked at Saints and West Ham's poorest 6 game sequences over the season. The worst sequence for Saints is 5 points from 6 games (Games 4-9) The worst sequence for West Ham is 7 points from 6 games (Games 19-24) This compares with Reading's worst sequence of 4 points from 6 games (Games 1-6) Go...

Re: The Snowball stat thread

However, whatever the reason, it is clear that something has changed from game 7 onwards. No it isn't. What changed between Game 6 and Game 7? Nothing. No new players joined that I can recall. Same manager. Same ground. Same pitch. The reason the former is excluded and the latter is not is for one ...

Re: The Snowball stat thread

Another way of looking at the trend - (but still illustrates the point) is to look at each 6 game sequence from the start of the season. games 1-6 - 4 points games 7-12 - 12 points games 13-18 - 8 points games 19-24 - 15 points games 25-30 - 12 points games 31-35 - 15 points (only 5 games) Games 1-6...

Re: The Snowball stat thread

Hi all When one looks at the ppg trend over the whole season so far it is clear that there is a significant improvement in ppg from game 7 onwards. If you see this on a graph (sorry, can't post image) then ppg is a practically flat line from game 1 to game 6 (1 win, 1 draw and then 4 defeats). After...

Re: The Snowball stat thread

Evening all As you'll notice I've not posted on here for a long long time but I do read Hob Nob everyday. As for my credentials as a fan - I have been a loyal Royal for over nearly 40 years. I'll nail my colours to the mast straight away and state that I've always been a fan of Snowball's contributi...
