2 world wars, 1 world cup Shane Long has only just proven he's only just good enough at championship level.

I like the guy and want him to stay but if he goes I can't see him doing much at another club.

This is where any hope of him staying derives from, and the fact we've been relatively patient with him.

The optimist in me says that maybe, just maybe, we'll hang on to him till January on the premise that if we are battling near the top he'll stay, and if we're languishing middle or bottom of the table he'll be on his way.

But i'm certainly more of a pessimist.
