Re: MATCHWATCH : Cheltenham Town (a)

Usual cup suicide from Reading. Thought we might be getting somewhere start of second half then we make a load of unforced changes, back to a trial match, concede, lose. When you’ve got ten players only playing part of the game do they feel the same responsibility for the result? Feels too easy to s...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Cheltenham Town (a)

Painful watch. For us it’s like a trial match. No cohesion or quality going forward. Som nice touches from Barough. Still waiting to see what Tuma can make of the opportunity to play CF.

Ah, yeah. My mistake. Confused him with Nelson who came from Crewe on the same day.

Still a poor player though.

<<I’m not sure we were outclassed as such. It’s absolutely crazy that as a third division team we are playing top European sides on equal terms ! They were definitely the better side but this was not our best set of u21 players and being disappointed with the performance shows the level of expectati...

Re: Mick Hollis

This is getting very rose-tinted / sugar-coated. Mick Hollis was a poor forward. He wasn't big, fast or skillful. 25 apps, 6 goals (2 pens) in a season and a half, mostly playing in a team that got relegated. Replaced by the much better Pat Earles. Lesson - don't buy from Crewe. Lesson not heeded - ...

The Labour Government has announced in today's Kings Speech that they will re-introduce the Bill to establish an Independent Football Regulator, which the previous Government had to drop as Sunak called an early GE. Excellent news for all football fans! :D I should know the answer but does this onl...

Nice. Have we had any players at the Olympics before? For starters .... Herbert Smith 1908 Gold medal Ted Hanney 1912 - in gold medal team but didn't play in final Maurice Edelston 1936 Fran Kirby 2020 (with Chelsea by then probably) Daley Thompson ...! (trialist) All for GB - may be more for other...

Re: Reading FC Womens World

'Fraid so. In terms of turnover the whole club is about one third the size it was 10 years ago (Champ, parachutes). We're in the third tier and broke now. Last few annual accounts for women's team suggest it was losing £1m-£1.5m pa. Crowds generally <500, no transfer fees out, not much TV income in ...

Re: Charlie Hurley RIP

Brogue What a shit remembrance for him today. Players didn’t gather around the centre circle and it wasn’t on the refs whistle. All a bit slapdash and haphazard

Club couldn't even get a photo of him on the scoreboard! Axe the Comms - or aren't there any left?

Re: Charlie Hurley RIP

It took him 4 1/2 seasons to win promotion from Div 4. There again it was a club that hadn't won promotion for 50 years! He gave us the varied talents of Robin Friday and Percy Freeman, a few memorable cup ties, promotion, some sort of near-ish misses and I think he was generally regarded as a decen...

Re: TAKEOVER *NOT* CONFIMRED

But why wouldn't you just go to Stockport or Tranmere? This is something that's close to my heart. It must be so, so tempting just to follow the "big boys" in urban areas like Greater Manchester. I have a lot of time for folk who actually choose to forego the United's, City's and follow t...

Re: Berks and Bucks Senior cup 2023/24

I remember going to this equivalent fixture a few years ago. First time I saw Michael Olise who bossed the midfield. We have a player badly injured - Jack Nolan? I assume we won - otherwise the Flackwell Heathens would be somewhere on my mental grudge list.
