Re: Ipswich v Reading - Match thread

listening to the Ipswich commentary; they are of the view the tractor boys need another goal...and that Reading are threatening to get back...(for what it's worth)

Re: Games against Nottingham Forest....

ahh - just seen Spacey final line about the Simod game.
apologies.
Still, a great night, felt like one of those special Elm Park evenings that cropped up every now and then.

Re: Games against Nottingham Forest....

And of course there was the Simod Cup win at Elm Park in the 87/88 season.
A big draw at the time...and we beat them 2-1 in the 3rd round.

....then it was Bradford in the 4th round,
...Coventry in the semis (made famous by the late late penalty shoot-out)
and then the 4-1 win at Wembley.

Re: Your favourite games from the Tommy Burns era?

phew ! Glad my memory is in some sort of order. I remember it being a strange game...the team list on the back of the programme was a scrawl of crossed out and penned in names of people I hardly knew. Rather surreal watching a Reading team nearly unrecognisable from the one playing the week before. ...

Re: Your favourite games from the Tommy Burns era?

Can any well informed Nobbers remember TB first game in charge?
Who it was against and the result.

I could have sworn we were away at Portman road....where he introduced about 7 news faces...
but checking the fixtures I must be wrong. I do remeber us being beaten....(I think)

Re: Worst three matches watched

That Bury game made for a great evening - sort of. At least memorable. The rainfall was amazing, but Bury played it perfectly, just lumped it upfield, while we tried to pass neatly through the muddy lakes... It was indeed abandoned with Bury 2-0 up ...which was amusing (in a Schadenfreude kind of wa...

Re: Would you want Sidwell back?

Drifting off the topic slightly....Who has made the most succesful return to Reading ? Or indeed, how many players have done it at all ? I can think of the obvious ones like Adie Williams and Trevor Senior...also Gary Peters but we're going back a bit here. Senior and Williams did well on their resp...

Re: Remember the time we thrashed Blackburn 4-0 at Elm Park?

By the way - crap though they may have been - I still bought one of those shirts.
It hides in a box in my loft with a number of other shockingly bad Reading shirts I picked up over the years...

Re: Remember the time we thrashed Blackburn 4-0 at Elm Park?

It was my first ever game. I'd just arrived as a fresher at Reading Uni...and having seen so much about Readings promotion and record breaking feats in the national press, I was keen to watch. (I think I'd be classed newbie or plastic these days  ) But really, I knew nothing about Reading, eve...

maybe not... I take the point that the Premier league don't allow the multi-ball system. But does anyone know their reasoning. I'm just curious really. Is it because they assume it will be 'fixed' by the ball boys/girls in favour of the home team ? By the way, i was somewhat amused on Sunday when th...

This piece of "objective journalism" was written by a Chelsea supporter Mr. Byford

Apologies Cookie, I assumed a semicolon where there was none.
A qucik scan made me think Byford himself had personally written this bit of fiction.

Easy now...a quick correction. Byford actually supports Leeds.......is frequently on record as saying so.....went to Leeds Uni...and comes from Yorkshire... That aside, the report sucks. And as a journalist at the BBC, and in the North stand on Saturday...I was a little surprised by what I read.. :o...

1987 v Blackburn. 4-0 to the Royals As a fresher at Reading Uni I turned up seconds after kick-off, to see some team in sky blue and white shirts, with navy shorts score. (Remember that kit - I still have a shiny shirt at home even now with the legend 'Courage' rather cheaply emblazoned on the front...

well Muskrat, I called late last week - (queue position no 1 - that doesn't happen too often) - and they happily took my money to upgrade my eight year old son's ST (school tomorrow and living in kent etc etc) to allow my mate to come along instead. Guess you got lucky. :D And I know that my mate co...
