Still, a great night, felt like one of those special Elm Park evenings that cropped up every now and then.

And of course there was the Simod Cup win at Elm Park in the 87/88 season.
A big draw at the time...and we beat them 2-1 in the 3rd round.

....then it was Bradford in the 4th round,
...Coventry in the semis (made famous by the late late penalty shoot-out)
and then the 4-1 win at Wembley.

phew ! Glad my memory is in some sort of order. I remember it being a strange game...the team list on the back of the programme was a scrawl of crossed out and penned in names of people I hardly knew. Rather surreal watching a Reading team nearly unrecognisable from the one playing the week before. ...

That Bury game made for a great evening - sort of. At least memorable.
