Re: MATCHWATCH : Cheltenham Town (a)

I enjoyed that. An absorbing, if not thrilling, game. Cheltenham had two Academy graduates at fullback in Liggett and Willcox. Otherwise it was a bunch of fairly seasoned lower league pros. And Reading's kids stood up well. Matty Taylor and Ryan Bowman didn't get much of a sniff in front of goal aid...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Cheltenham Town (a)

After a rocky start to the season after a summer of almost wholesale change to the backroom and playing staff, Cheltenham are now flying. Expecting a lot of changes from the team that beat Rotherham on Saturday. Expect the likes of Matty Taylor to start. The big question mark is the goalkeeper. Both...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Cheltenham Town (a)

Looking at dates and I don’t know when this could be played. Don’t know what the rules say, but would be good if the tie could be reversed and played tomorrow. 20 November is the latest date for fulfillment of Group Stage fixtures. Assuming it’ll be a Tuesday the only options look to be 15th Oct, 5...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Cheltenham Town (a)

The heavens opened at about 4pm for about 45 minutes. Proper torrential rain. Roads turned to rivers. It’s stopped now, but unsurprised it’s off.

Re: MATCHWATCH : Cheltenham Town (a)

There’s been heavy, persistent rain in Cheltenham since late morning. No sign of a pitch inspection yet, but keep your eye on the social media if you’re travelling.

Re: MATCHWATCH : Cheltenham Town (a)

The £10k winners prize money is actually a pretty big incentive for Cheltenham (that’s how finances roll at small clubs in the basement). The Board have said they do not budget for any income from cup competitions so £10k would be a bonus and they’ll have their eye on that. But, yes, Flynn has prett...

Re: Cheltenham (A)

Clyde1998 Some progress with sales; my estimate is 230 currently.

Just bought my tickets in the Hazlewoods stand behind the goal. My guess is Cheltenham have sold <100 in there. Same in the Main Stand. Can't see there being anywhere near 1000 unless a lot of people rock up and pay on the night.

Re: MATCHWATCH : Cheltenham Town (a)

Cheltenham have been Atrocious with a capital A this season. 19 new players were recruited over the summer with almost all of last season's first team leaving. Only Tom Bradbury and Tom Pett remain from the team that started the league fixture at Whaddon Road in December. Two victories have been cou...

Re: How hard is running a football club?

There's a well-established calculation that shows that the relationship between spend and success (i.e. league position) in professional football is 87%. It's that 13% variability that makes the game interesting - this is where managerial brilliance, coaching and tactics, team-dynamics - as well as...

Re: Cheltenham (A)

Seems that we're only in the corner on the side rather than also behind the goal this time I imagine they're wanting to keep as many stands closed as possible to save on costs. Seems we've sold around 134 to date. Yes, Reading fans in the corner on the side as per last season. Cheltenham fans behin...

Away fans will be in the Colin Farmer stand (the seats on the side) with home fans in, what is normally, the away end behin...

Re: Ex Players

Was at Stevenage v Cheltenham yesterday. Luke Southwood, ever present for two years, caught the ball down at the near post, clashed fairly innocuously with a Stevenage player, and collapsed screaming. Right in front of us and pretty horrible to see. Was eventually stretchered off and confirmed this ...

tidus_mi2 Judging by their home attendances, there's probably going to be a similar amount, maybe even more away fans than home fans.

Yes. Cheltenham had 400 there in a crowd of 3020. It’ll feel like a home game.

Re: MATCHWATCH : Burton Albion (h)

If the team are not on the beach this should be a comfortable 2-0 win. We will score, so just need to defend well and we should win - if we get ahead early and news filters through of Cheltenham winning, they will panic and we should be able to pick them off. Watched Burton v Cheltenham last night ...

Re: Derby (A)

Went in the away end at Derby a few weeks ago. The safe standing is about 90% of the stand with only a small wedge of seats at the front for those who want to sit. And the stewards are very hot on checking which section your ticket is for. The pubs around the station are, indeed, fantastic. But they...

Re: Do you agree with todays pitch invasion and match abandonment?

All footage shared is of the out pouring of love and pride toward our club and anger at what is happening. That would still have been shared regardless of the abandonment. I'm not sure about this. The abandonment elevates it well above a mere pitch invasion. It's on the front page of the BBC Sport ...

Re: FA Youth cup 2023/24

Sean Long is at Cheltenham. I think looking back it shows the club has been able to produce a consistent stream of good professional players - even if only a few have played consistently at Championship-level or higher. Is now in his sixth year at Cheltenham. Closing in on 200 appearances, Is club ...

Clyde1998 He was on the touch line for Peterborough and Cheltenham (IIRC) and don’t remember him picking up any cards in either game to get a new ban.

I'm pretty sure Selles was booked after the final whistle at Cheltenham.

Re: MATCHWATCH : Cheltenham Town (a)

Despite our overall better results I don't think our defence has improved really. Abbey and Bindon are raw. Dorsett looks ok but not confident in a LB role, Holmes is still iffy. I'd like an experienced CB who's better than Harlee Dean! The problem today was largely in our inability to compete in m...

Glad you liked it St Pauli. It is a special place. Though if you think the beer is expensive, take a look at rents and house prices.
