Re: Collective TV Selling

There's also the rather hilarious aside that the big clubs haven't worked out a way to make that much money from their overseas fans. They watch the games, but are happy buying a fake shirt.

Re: Collective TV Selling

What I'm not sure of,but hopefully someone can shed some light on this, is if SKY do seperate deals for matches shown in foreign climes.IE Are different live games shown abroad to the ones shown here and how much do Sky gain for that? I can quite understand clubs being a bit peeved if Sky are not r...

Re: Collective TV Selling

Pure capitalism doesn't work. It all falls down in the end. It's admittedly a different beast but it works alright for Formula One. And American sports. It'll keep going that way, no question. American sports seem to have realised that the product was the competition, not the individual teams withi...

Re: Collective TV Selling

But they can't play Barca every week. And there's also the valid argument that playing the big teams every week would devalue those games.

Re: Collective TV Selling

The league is only marketable as a collection of 20 teams. While a minority might be more popular, they could not exist in a vacuum.

Tredder 1005: FOOTBALL - Wales supporters are set to outnumber their Bulgarian hosts for tonight's qualifier, with the home side selling less than 50 tickets so far.

LOLz.

Re: McDermott via TalkSport

The only thing I'd question is if the £4 million deficit is a yearly thing, then why? That's what deficits are, aren't they? deficit - annual loss debt - total accumulated loss if we're running at a deficit of several million, then every year we need to find an additional several million to break e...

Re: Weekend Football 1st/2nd October

I thought the whole point of the relative crackdown in recent seasons was to punish the tackle itself, not the result. In my mind if Commons' is a red, so is Rodwell's. One got the ball, the other missed. Both were 'robust' challenges. That's correct, whether you get the ball is irrelevant. The rul...

Re: Four years ago today

We lost 7 or 8 on the trot at one stage that season. As I mentioned earlier - 8 in a row (in the league) starting with the 6-4 loss at WHL and ending with a 2-1 loss at home to Villa. We did managed a 2-2 draw at WHL in the FA Cup 3rd round in that period (and lost the replay 1-0). Oh OK. The WHL g...

Re: Four years ago today

We lost 7 or 8 on the trot at one stage that season. The single worst thing about the Portsmouth result was people claiming we hadn't been hammered. Quite! It's almost as if there was an Icelandic Public Holiday that day because both Ivar & Bryn were utterly , utterly, rubbish. BUT WE SCORED FO...

You also get quirks like the losing finalists getting more money than the winners (last time Liverpool lost in the final iirc)

What is that €18M made up from? Just appearence fees, does it include TV money from the game, gate receipts, matchday magazines sold etc etc Nearly 4 million for qualifying, another 3 million for playing 6 matches, a small sum based on how well they did and a much larger sum based on their TV profi...
