Ref Watch - Charlton (home)

Referee: Gillett, Jarred Assistant Referee: Blunden, Darren Assistant Referee: George, Michael Fourth Official: Ward, Gavin A first trip to the Madejski I believe for Mr Gillett, who is somewhat of an unusual case in that he is a FIFA referee from Australia who has come over to study at Liverpool un...

Re: Nick Shorey joins Accademy as Scout

I don't think that it's unreasonable for someone to criticise Shorey's conduct/performances in 07/08 - I seem to remember Brian McDermott referring to it in an interview when Shorey returned in 2012. I've no issue with a player wanting to move on - plenty of Reading players have been in that positio...

If not already mentioned, this will be the first Reading game to use VAR.

Re: New Manager

I agree with the approach the club has taken really. As well as it being the moral thing to do, I think that you're in a much better position to undertake an effective and comprehensive recruitment process if everyone's aware that there's a vacancy. Paul Clement and Steve Clarke are probably the two...

There was a Referee media briefing last week in which some of the audio of conversations between VARs and referees was released - it's from approximately 20.00 in this video if anyone is interested - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zYapOnBsSVY

Re: VAR

The penalty took time because it was a hard call to make. What didn't help this at all was Pawson ambling off to the side while in debate with the Liverpool players, reviewing and then ambling back on in debate with the WBA players. It should be made unequivocal that if a referee is in discussion w...

Re: VAR

I think it is worth considering what would have happened last night had VAR not been in place. I suspect Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool supporters would have been placing a lot of blame on Craig Pawson for the decisions. It would probably have been suggested that 'If the Dawson goal was disallowed for o...

Re: VAR

I'm all for the advantage being given to the attacking team but I think it's a bit disingenuous to suggest they're just guessing when they get so many right and train quite hard to do so too. If they start to give more and more benefits of doubt then the game is potentially going to be more and mor...

Re: VAR

Alan Shearer spot on last night. VAR should only be used for matter of fact. Ball in and out of play. Inside box, outside box, offside etc. Everyone on numerous media feeds are still debating whether they were penalties or not. That in itself says it won’t work. I think that the premise behind VAR ...

Re: Is this the end for Madejski?

Very impressed Madejski said that, though perhaps might have been better in a different setting. But I think it's probably one of the best things someone on or around the board has done in the last few months as far as I'm concerned.

Decided not to renew so will see how Stam gets on from afar.

Re: Season Ticket Prices for 2016/2017

A neighbour of mine has been told they can request a refund in writing by post or by emailing memberservices@readingfc.co.uk

Sounds like it's just a formality for anyone wanting one.

If the club ends up with a similar number of ST holders to last year I'd think they'd done well.

For anyone wanting to thank Brian personally I sent an email via the club - bmcdermott@readingfc.co.uk - and slightly to my surprise got a very nice, classy reply from him.

Very glad I sent it now and grateful he took the time to reply. We've been very lucky to have him.

Re: What have you done to express your feelings about the way the club is being run?

Have written to the club over the weekend to express my anger at the sacking of Brian McDermott and the direction the club is going in under the current ownership. Pretty certain I won't renew my season ticket (was all set to do it until Friday morning.) It's easy to give it a few days, sigh and the...

Re: How impressed are you with BMcD's return to the club?

Talk of sacking McDermott is totally nonsense. I understand McDermott has convinced the owners he inherited an absolute mess and the club footballing side is pretty rotten. Rotten through bad signings and loan players. Brian has identified characters that need to be released, who needs to come in w...

Re: McDermott Sacked (AGAIN)

Saying they are full and final suggests you can't get a refund on a whim. More likely they would do it in exceptional circumstances such as death, serious long term illness, major financial problems or having to move away from the area. I'd be surprised if they just hand back cash on the fairly fli...

For those asking about the regulations regarding Season Ticket refunds, 4.3 on part 2 of this page might be significant - http://www.readingfcdirect.co.uk/Terms.aspx 'All season ticket sales are full and final and are only refundable if returned to the club before the commencement of the first game ...
