Re: 1st December 1990

As someone who started supporting "The Bicuitmen" in the era of Frank Waller we may not have the ideal chairman but I certainly wouldn`t want to return to those days. But be careful what you wish for , you could end up with a Mike Ashley!

Re: Most Disappointing Player in RFC History

Maurice Cook. Oh the ambition back in the old days ! Good player Maurice Cook. Played alongside Rodney Marsh. Surprising that Baz Savage doesn`t feature here. Cant have played much alongside Marsh as Marsh hardly played for Fulham and when Maurice came to Reading he was at the end of his career and...

Re: Your Top 3 RFC Games Seen, EVER

West Stand Man Feeling my age today as I seem to be the only one who rates the 8-0 thrashing of Southport! Was I the only one there!!?

Not the only one there but far too one-sided. The reward was pretty good though, Man U in the Watney (IIRC ) Cup

Re: Behind closed doors

SJM commissioned this picture of Armstrong so he could convince the doubters that we are indeed in a Black Hole ! http://cdn.dipity.com/uploads/events/3c02df5812f6222cd4d52f13bbab688f.jpg I always thought there was a lack of atmosphere at games.[/quote] Has Fred Neate been at the pitch with weedkil...

Re: Non-League Day

Went and watched Clevedon versus Sholing. 3-2 to Sholing Recommend the experience. 10 min drive from home , parked right outside ground, decent game, good refreshment bar and could have gone in bar after game if I had wanted to. Back home in time to watch results on Sky .Bliss !! Made me wonder why ...

The bloke in the next seat R.I.P.
Sad to say that Pete passed away last night, will be missed by all his friends in Upper West stand. Puts events on the field into perspective

The bloke in the next seat

When I went to the marketing suite at Smallmead to pick my seat for the new shiny stadium that was to become the Madstad little did I know that Pete, Paul and Ron were doing the same. When I sat down at our first game against Luton , Pete was the one sitting next to me. Over the course of the years ...

Re: Shove your vuvuzelas up your arse

I went to South Africa and managed to see SA v Zimbabwe. What a treat. What an atmosphere from about 25000 in the new stadium in Durban. If you saw the conditions that ahuge number of these fans live and work in then you would let them enjoy themselves any way they can. If all you have to worry abou...

Re: Best RFC goalie of all time?

Arthur Wilkie gets my vote.......showing my age! Spot on, his understudy and sometimes starting goalie, Dixon was good too, we were well endowed during those [think Bentley] years, followed by Steve Death who was a legend. Wilkie also scored a goal didn't he? Ahhh those were the days. Didnt he scor...

Re: Your first game

Away to Colchester in late 50s. We lost 4-2 I think ( no doubt Ark Royal will fill in the details ) . My dad took me by coach for some unknown reason as he wasnt a "biscuits " fan. Started going regularly in 1961 when I started working in Reading. Many highlights but like a lot of others h...

Percy Freeman-depending on what your definition of deadly is. I used to stand behind the goal at Elm Park and I was worried at times
