Re: CONFRIMED: Takeover collapsed; Back to square one

Pre-empting the obvious follow up - too soon to tell. Might as well put this up. I'm not bothering with average attendances by club at this stage as one or two games doesn't really tell us anything. 2024-25 Reading away followings (allocation in brackets; midweek evening matches in italics) Birmingh...

Re: CONFRIMED: Takeover collapsed; Back to square one

Of course there are, but not necessarily because they were relegated. Do you think Ipswich would be in the Premier League if they weren't relegated from the Championship? No. They'd done nothing for years, with no real significant prospect of improvment. They went down, where they were a big fish i...

Pepe the Horseman
ILoveMoonPig On a semi-serious level, how much could the fans seriously put in? Like if we had a mega whip round to launch a hostile takeover?

Nothing. We spent it all on a statue for Port Vale.

Re: CONFRIMED: Takeover collapsed; Back to square one

Where have I heard that before It used to fill me with rage hearing people on Twitter saying, "Relegation could be just what we need. A chance to rebuild and sort everything out" It was highly ignorant and stupid. To think that League One was a place to go and just have a wee play about, ...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Huddersfield Town (h)

rabidbee I’m taking the nippers to their first ever Royals match this Saturday (poor bloody buggers), so I’m hoping for a really positive reaction from the players please. A cracking atmosphere wouldn’t go amiss either.

Re: Record Watch 2024/25

Clyde1998 Here's a record I didn't know we held until yesterday.

Same era that Le Fondre won player of the month playing fewer than 90 minutes of football (85), which I understand was a record at the time.

Re: MATCHWATCH : Bolton Wanderers (a)

Can't help but feel with the penalties that you've got attackers also grappling and behaving ungentlemanly, so perhaps defenders should look to fall over as well - or instead of - as long as they can hit the ground first they should get the free kick  I thought for a while we've been too 'nice...

Re: CONFRIMED: Takeover collapsed; Back to square one

Didn't the Leicester owners enquire here to SJM, and he didn't trust them? I'm sympathetic to the mistake of selling to AZ. He had a connection to the area through Bearwood school, and his Dad was a billionaire. It's perfectly rational to think the family as a whole will fund the club, and Russian ...

Re: Selles out

He's certainly turned into the best we've had since Brian. But then a block of cheese would have a chance of that seeing as they'd be competing with: Adkins, Clarke, Stam, Clement, Gomes, Bowen, Paunovic and Ince. LOL yeah, 10 full time managers in 11 years. Stable. I'd say it's quite a consistent ...

Re: How hard is running a football club?

There's a well-established calculation that shows that the relationship between spend and success (i.e. league position) in professional football is 87%. It's that 13% variability that makes the game interesting - this is where managerial brilliance, coaching and tactics, team-dynamics - as well as...

Re: Selles out

Exactly. Nowhere near. Unless he means "after Coppell and McDermott" in a temporal sense, in which case it's possible.. but then I'd say he's arguably the best manager in that sense? Post Brian I'd agree. In my time back to 1971 McGhee gets the vote for third place. He took the club from ...

Re: MATCHWATCH : Wrexham (a)

yeah, three goals right on the counter attack. Second, Dorsett out of position because he makes the wrong decision on a loose ball and then its all over until it hits the back of the net. I didn't think we were bad yesterday. A bit lightweight, too willing to whinge at the ref, some good position an...

Re: Wrexham (A)

On the other side of town, you've got the Wrexham Lager brew tap, Magic Dragon brewery tap, Golden Lion, Rough Hands, Saith Seren is a venue but quality ales on the go. Drunk Monk looks like a solid micropub.

All good.

Plus a pint of Wrexham lager at the free festival in the town centre.
