Re: Rumour - Reece Smith

I’ve seen him a few times. He’s a class player at that level and he really stands out in a poor Maidenhead side. He’s had a quiet season this year owing to injury and the opposition targeting him. He can play at a higher level than NL and may flourish better in a less direct style of play.

Re: The Non - League thread

Had a look at the attendances this weekend in the National League South and noticed that of the 13 games, 9 had attendances of 1000+ and another of 991. I remember looking at fixtures in the 1970’s hardly any fixtures in non league had gates of 1000. These increases are not just confined to this div...

Re: The Non - League thread

Hungerford 3 Chertsey 0. Since the new year Hungerfords form has been very impressive moving from the bottom 4 to the top half of the table. They now play a back 3 and look a lot more solid and have kept 3 successive clean sheets. Last nights win was a lot tighter than the score line suggests with 2...

What records do Reading FC hold

In addition to the highest number of points gained in a football league season what other records do the club hold. Have just read an article which states that the first Italian to play football in England was Attalio Fresia who signed for Reading in 1913 for £17 (alas a fee beyond us now) and won o...

Re: The Non - League thread

Eastleigh are currently offering an early bird (until 31st Jan) season ticket for next season £99 for adults, £75 for concessions. They’ll almost certainly be in the NL next season. That works out less than £5 per game. Not sure you’ll get better value for that level or even a couple of levels lower.

That’s twice i have seen the Crusaders this season and on both occasions have looked a decent team.Southern league Premier South must be a competitive league this season. Attendance 180 It is a very competitive league. ...

Re: The Non - League thread

Bracknell 1 Merthyr 2. Decent game Merthyr on top first half but gave away a soft equaliser. Then they absolutely battered Bracknell second half and only won with a late goal. Merthyr are an excellent footballing side averaging 3 goals a game, should be a decent tussle at the top with them and money...

Re: The Non - League thread

The National League cup started last night, the competition Reading withdrew from. I understand for Oldham v Stoke the attendance was 455. Other games attracted crowds of 200ish and Dagenham had 181.

Re: The Non - League thread

Have seen most of Hungerfords games this season. They were dreadful midweek losing 1-0 in the FA cup to Winchester and never looked like scoring. Missed todays game v Plymouth Parkway which they somehow won 9-3. Last seasons games v Parkway had scorelines of 7-0 and 6-2 for the home teams.

Re: The Non - League thread

Thatcham are appealing the sideways move. There was an interesting article in this weeks NLP when they listed the mileage for each team in steps 1 - 4 for next season. 2 teams had total round trips of 10,000 miles Gateshead and Truro. Thatchams mileage has gone from about 1,400 to 4,400 miles. The ...

Had a visit to Wimborne’s new ground in their top of the table clash with Frome. Fantastic facilities grass pitch with an adjacent 3G pitch for training. Good youth set up to academy level. Large modern clubhouse. Attendance of 2307. Tight game finished 1-1.

Re: FA Cup Changes

All a massive overreaction. Let's be honest unless you get a big club in a replay they are massive loss makers for the majority of clubs and inconvenient for teams, players and fans. Just take our match at Eastleigh this season. We'd have had to push back the Oxford (H) match by a week to fit the r...

Owing to a waterlogged pitch Plymouth Parkway are playing their home game v Swindon Supermarine at 2pm Sunday 7th April at Hungerfords Bulpit Lane. Not sure why they can’t find somewhere closer or at Supermarines ground.

Re: Refereeing

Paul, fourth official in the PL is right at the top of the tree, would we know who you were, recognise you as a league referee? I can see why there is a struggle for Sunday league referees - increasingly a cesspit for violent behaviour and abuse. No, not now. Retired. When i was doing this in the l...

Eastleigh v Reading on ITV Sunday 3rd December 1.30pm. Anyone interested to go to this may find it easier to get tickets via Eastleigh. Would involve purchasing a ticket for one of their home games v either Altrincham or Borehamwood. Details on their website.

Re: The Non - League thread

Saw Eastleigh beat a poor Borehamwood 5-1 on Saturday. They are nothing special. Chris Maguire is a decent player up front, and Paul Macallum is a natural goal scorer but he didn’t get on as he’s coming back from injury. They were fairly solid in defence and they have a good goalkeeper in McDonnell ...
