but the worst IMHO is Millwall 0-1 Yeovil. That must have hurt. ...why? It's a poor result, but unless you've developed a "small club = shit" mentality so prevalent in the premier league obsessed media, a lower-half team losing to one expected to struggle is hardly humiliation. It's a hom...

Re: Football Returns

Apparently, the Pompey game was the biggest ever crowd for that level.......I'm sure some of our forefathers would beg to differ. a quite wiki check shows... The highest average league attendance in the Fourth Division was 19,092, achieved by Crystal Palace in the 1960/61 season. The highest attend...

Re: Next seasons kit choice?

Seeing it up close convinced me yesterday that this will be a "no shirt" year. On the plus side, this will make me seem much cooler and more of a proper fan apparently, but it does also mean I'll have to look at the horrible kit every game. The hooped sleeves look extra nasty from the back.

pbb2007 It reminds me when brendon Rogers was in charge change the system but look toothless up front. Hope some new strikers are on the cards.

without any service, it doesn't matter how good your strikers are - they'll find it hard to score.

Barry the bird boggler Well that's me stuffed. Not in the country for 2 weeks, with no wifi, while these are on sale and thanks to the crap ticket office telephone system you can't ring up and get tickets that way either.

where on earth are you going where you can't even nip into an internet cafe to buy a ticket?

You can't just invent a local rival. The whole idea is daft. And as it happens I love it that Oxford, Swindon and Aldershot are all crap, having to look up at us, knowing that kids from their areas are growing up as Reading supporters, and knowing that barring a seismic shift, they won't be at our l...

Re: too confident?

I think we should be up there, but my biggest concern is the change of playing style.

I think it's the right thing to do, but it may take a while for us to be effective playing it.

Re: World Cup Coverage

Do people honestly watch BBC/ITV football for the pundits though? - i would rather it be free than having to pay just cos you get better pundits People watching because of the pundits seems unlikely, but I do increasingly feel, especially on match of the day, is that the pundits think it's a footba...

Re: World Cup Coverage

Except it wasn't "every ball" - you'd lose some for the news at lunchtime, and if play over-ran they'd cut it off unless it was really dramatic. There isn't a free-to-air broadcaster who's prepared to dedicate the time needed without a break - and guarantee that coverage. I think cutting ...

Re: Pre-Season Games - Portugal

Im happy with the squad but in the back of my mind i still think theres something missing For me it's having mostly the same defence who shipped too many goals last season and the same forward line that didn't score enough. On the contrary, I think our weakness last season was in midfield, which st...

Re: Stoke offer free coach travel for all away games

Exactly. The cost of all the extra tickets sold would probably offset the cost of the coaches anyway. it might if we made any money on away ticket sales. On the other hand, how much does it cost to hire a coach? £500? How many are we likely to fill even of they were free? For some reason the number...

Re: World Cup Coverage

Can’t really expect a terrestrial channel to dedicate 25 days from 10 till 7 for the Ashes though. It’s the main reason to have Sky in the first place. I thought C4 used to do it and I'm fairly sure I was off school and watching the Ashes in the early 90s on BBC2 (I actually think I saw that famous...

Only a matter of time before Australia gets a world cup. I thought South Africa was a perfect host country. Meant so much to the nation and regardless of the quality of the football, the games had such character. Brazil will be similar. I doubt we'll say the same after Russia and Qatar. Personally ...

If you were smart you'd take the stuff out before sealing it up. Get them to smash their own wall up to remove something that's not even there.

melonhead couldnt caere less about he name. the name means nothing. its not like an ancient historic ground or any thing

I doubt many care about the stadium not being called the Madejski Stadium.

The fear is more about it being called The Weetabix Bowl, or something equally as tacky.

Re: Pre-season friendlies

behind closed doors friendlies also allow clubs to field foreign (non-EU) trialists, as they can't play in friendlies (or any other games) without a work permit.

That might be a benefit if we have anyone over.

Re: Next seasons kit choice?

Perhaps the club have realised that by putting a plain back on the shirts they flog more names and numbers so can bring in an extra £10 or so per shirt. Bloody hell you're probably right! Seems so obvious when you think about it. Classic RFC cunning. Would anyone put a name & number on the back...
