Gentleman Jim Doyle WON'T go in January. It would take a couple of seasons of consistency before a BIG club come in for him. It is widely acknowledged that the second season is harder as defences and managers wise up to a striker's movement.

Why would Doyle want to go to Villa/Everton/Wet Sham/Man City etc when he is achieving everything he wants right here? Both in the Prem and with the Ireland squad.

I'm not saying he will go in January but Palace managed to hold on to Johnson for an extra year because there was less teams with enough money to prize him out. Now we suddenly have in the Prem a whole load of teams who have benefited from foreign investment. In my opinion it would need at least £10 million to sign Doyle. Previously there was only really Utd, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool who could put that kinda cash together. Now suddenly West Ham, Villa, Pompey, Man City, Everton are all gonna be in a position where they can raise £10 million.

Villa have it right now and Villa could do with a striker like Doyle. In todays Premiership clubs will come in rapidly for top stars like Doyle with big offers.

Teams like Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea are clearly thinking about better players than Doyle, but Villa, West Ham and Everton are exactly the right clubs that would hire Doyle. And suddenly they all have lots of cash.

I would say that there is a 25% chance Doyle will leave in January, a 60% chance he will leave in the Summer and obviously a 40% chance that he will still be with us next season. That is how I would assess the odds.

1) Higher Salary
2) More investment into their teams = better chance of long-term success. (Realistically Doyle has a higher chance of achieving success and winning prizes playing for Villa than he has with Reading) Why, Villa expertly managed by Martin O'Neill. And they have sh*t loads of money to spend to improve their side and stay challenging for honours for a long period of time.

RFC are well managed by Sir Steve but right now we don't have the resources to compete for honours consistently for a long time period.

Because we are doing well and our players are performing so well, it is obvious that our best stars will be cherry picked during the next 3 transfer windows.

Long-Term the best we can hope for until the Mad Man sells out to a Super Rich business man is to compete in the Prem in a similar way that Fulham are managing. Or Charlton over many years. We can't expect to ever be a top 6 side consistently for a number of seasons. We may have our 1 off seasons but it won't happen consistently.

But then when has Reading ever competed with the best teams consistently? We have always been a one season wonder type of team. This is our one season of wonder in the Prem. Next season we will all have to come back down to earth.

Lets just enjoy it while it lasts. And carry on supporting the Royals in the same numbers and with the same volume as now when it all goes Pete Tong, probably next season!

I really love the optimism Top Flight

We can't assume just because we have a good player, he is going to be sold at the first opportunity. Or even the fifth. We have a solid base with a rich investor. An amazing manager as the monthly awards testify and we are holding our own in the Premiership without investing strongly over the summer. This January is only the start of us STRENGTHENING the squad, not letting precious members leave. We haven't got the depth to afford to lose someone like Doyle even if a stupid offer comes in for him.

Just close your eyes and smile Top Flight, the future's bright, the future's Royal Blue :!:

I am smiling buddy. I am also realistic enough to know that this success won't last very long!

But, I have been watching the Royals whichever division we have been in and however good or bad we were for a very long time now. So I will still be here when it all goes Pete Tong.

I think the point I am making is that its a such a shame that English Football is now only about money. The Premier League just isn't a good competition any more. It heavily favours the rich clubs. There shouldn't be such a disparity between the biggest clubs and the smaller ones. It completely ruins the competition for everybody. Money has spoiled the game!

I think that is why so many people say they prefer the Championship to the Prem. The Prem is hopelessly bias towards the top teams in every respect and smaller clubs have no hope of making a serious long-term challenge to the big guns.

Reality is that unlike other divisions, there is no talk of Winners of the Premiership.

Its all about Relegation and who will lose out. Shame
