Some would say a "Plastic" supporter is anyone who has the audacity to by a Season Ticket, wear a replica shirt and go to Arsenal away (apparently).

I think a better definition is someone who has adopted Reading as their number one football club since we have been promoted, but still supports Chelsea/ManU/Arsenal and then pretends that they have followed Reading since an embryo. Possibly also gets involved in "I am a bigger/better/harder fan than you" threads to prove their credibility.

Reminds me of the Charlie Higson character - Roger Nouveau from the Fast Show http://youtube.com/results?search_type=search_videos&search_query=fastshow&search_sort=relevance&search_category=17

Inviting them to join a conversation that interests them I would imagine.

Yes, yes you are.

I live in Epping, and get to all home league games. No excuses, no pack drill, I'm just a sad loser.

I don't go to matches with anyone here, and there's lots of others like me.

If anyone says you're a plastic ignore them. It's a stupid term used by "fans" who think that more supporters is a bad thing.

A plastic supporter is one who, instead of being made out of flesh and bones is made out of synthetic or semisynthetic polymerisation products composed of organic condensation or addition polymers.

Haha well spotted - took me a while to get it.

No I don't think jelly counts as I believe it is not even semi-synthetic because gelatin is natural. So to answer yoru question, 'jelly', I don't think you are a plastic supporter.

that makes me a plastic then according to the "hard fans" even though I was at elm park as well  perhaps I should get plastic 13 on my shirt (and I'm 43)

When all is said and done who cares how you came to be a Reading fan, we were all new fans once.

Don't let this form of snobbery worry you, if you are a Royals fan you know it and you don't have to prove it to any of us! 8)

Leave them to their own inferiority complexes and follow the team :) PS I was being "ironical" :)

I would say the plastic fans are those who bought season tickets last season so they could see premiership football this, but didn't go to the remainding championship games.

I haven't been since the birth of my son (2004) and would love to go but it's too far and too expensive to get there at the moment.

Anything else doesn't really matter, you'll always have diehards and you'll have those who go once in a blue moon.

But with any sense they'll all be cheering for the royals.
