Oster in dark over Toshack snub

havent seen this anywhere, but dodd away if its already up here. not sure why Oster isnt in the squad, Wales arent world beaters, anyone know anything more?

Oster in dark over Toshack snub

Oster has been overlooked despite impressive form for Reading
Reading midfielder John Oster says he has no idea why he continues to be overlooked by Wales boss John Toshack.
Oster, 28, is one of a select few Welsh players with a Premiership club, but he has been omitted from the squad for the forthcoming Euro 2008 qualifiers.

He told the ICBerkshire website: "It's disappointing. He hasn't bothered to ring me or to explain the situation.

"It's frustrating when you see players in the Wales team who wouldn't get into our reserves side at Reading."

Oster played a pivotal part in Reading's Championship title victory last season, and has made 23 appearance for the Royals so far this season.

But he has not featured in any of Toshack's squad since he took over from Mark Hughes as Wales manager in November 2004.

And with two midfielders from League One and one from League Two selected in the Wales squad for the Euro 2008 qualifiers with the Republic of Ireland (24 March) and San Marino (28 March), Oster assumes his continued omission is down to non-footballing reasons.

"I wouldn't like to guess the reasons he has [overlooked me]," added Oster, who won the last of his 13 caps against Northern Ireland in 2004.

"The only consolation is that this has nothing to do with my footballing ability.

"It seems I'm not part of the plans. To be honest, I'm not sure whether I want to play under John Toshack anyway after everything that's happened."

fraid not. one may argue that he hasnt been getting enough minutes, but he shouldv at least been included in the squad. i dont know if there is a reference to the fact that he has had a reputation from a few years back, maybe he is seen as a disruptable influence? im jst guessing.
i dont agree with any of these reasons and think he should have been included in the squad

He isn't playing very regularly for us? His reputation was a bit on the dodgy side before he came to us as well. Those are fairly good places to start as a reason for not selecting him.

Only if someone responsible for picking the squad doesn't actually watch their players in action. Oster has generally been impressive when he has played.

I didn't say they were good reasons. I suspect those would be the ones that they have though.

coz Toshack's an idiot  Robbie Savage might not be everybody's favourite player but he's got frozen out by him. Koumas was the same for a while.

Just wish he'd stop playing the big 'I am' and play the best players available to him.

Oster turned down a call up to the Wales B squad a while back, stating that it was an insult as his qualities were known to all.
Toshack doesn't like stuff like that (and I can see both points of view).

Saying now that he's not sure he'd like to play for Toshack is a good way of making sure he doesn't.

Hope this clears it up.

good luck with this one mate - you're going to get abused and labelled a stupid, over reactive, sensitive poster who can't spell.....oh and a penis if you're really lucky....

for what it's worth, I think he should at least be told why he isn't being selected above players from league 1 & 2....

Perhaps Toshack thinks that Koumas and Bellamy are enough with "troublesome " reputations in one team.
Oster may have settled down with us but reputations are hard earned but easily lost and our Jon is probably paying for his past record.
For whoever called Toshack a twat IIRC Real Madrid had him twice as their manager as did a few other Spanish clubs but then football only exists in England doesn't it? :

There is no way on this planet that Dave Edwards of Shrewsbury should be in ahead of him. Edwards has been awful lately, as the Shrewsbury fans are all to keen to mention.

Didn't Oyster say a little while back that he wouldn't play for Wales when Toshack was in charge?

(I may have made this up or just believed something that someone else made up)

What is he complaining about, WaLOLes have an abundance of class covering the midfield. From the recently named squad;

Andrew Crofts (Gillingham)
Arron Davies (Yeovil Town)
David Edwards (Shrewsbury Town)
Carl Fletcher (Crystal Palace)
Joe Ledley (Cardiff City),
Carl Robinson (Toronto)
David Cotterill (Wigan Athletic)
Jermaine Easter (Wycombe Wanderers)
Paul Parry (Cardiff City)

Yeah, remember when Chris Sutton rejected a call up for the England B team? He never wore the Three Lions, due to that refusal...
