It was in the mid-eighties (around 1984 I think). And I think it might have been when he took over as head groundsman.

Schards#2 I remember this, killed all the grass so they then planted some quick growing stuff which couldn't be mown to soon in case it all got torn up again.
The first game of the season was home to Millwall and the grass was visably longer than normal.
Did well to avoid the sack for that.
