So did it deflect or did he hoof it in his own net? I'm listening to Five Live where he implied Shorey kicked it into his own goal, but the text implies he was unlucky...

He didnt need to slide in there, you're sliding towards goal so really the only place the balls going to go is in the back of the net. Slide accross or away from goal and you will clear it. It was like a striker's tap in.

Same. The general consensus of how to pass to Doyle seems to be to boot it into the corner of the pitch and make him race the defender to the touchline.

hes playing left back what way you expect him to slide? i would be unhappy with my defenders if he hadn't of slided in and it went in the back of the net. Fair enough it went in by him sliding in but it happens in football, it was a good move, and if anything was a lot of players fault for their free flowing move
