Reading and the Betfair Handicap League

by hobbit » 26 Apr 2007 02:56

At the start and during the season Betfair have had a handicap league running where you could place bets.
Each team was given a number of points headstart/handicap against the favourites to win the league (Chelsea) and was effectively Betfairs way of saying where they considered the final league positions would be.

The handicap points are:

+0 Chelsea
+7 Man Utd
+11 Arsenal
+12 Liverpool
+22 Everton
+30 Middlesboro
+33 Newcastle
+35 Bolton
+36 Tottenham
+41 Aston Villa
+41 West Ham
+43 Portsmouth
+43 Man City
+44 Blackburn
+44 Fulham
+45 Charlton
+46 Wigan
+51 Reading
+54 Watford
+55 Sheff Utd

With our 51 points to date that gives us 102 points and the only team capable of equalling us now is Portsmouth who have 50+43=93 points and 3 games to go.

Table with the handicaps included is

1. 102 Reading
2. 93 Portsmouth
3. 90 Sheff Utd
4. 89 Man Utd
4. 89 Bolton
6. 88 Blackburn
7. 86 Tottenham
8. 85 Man City
9. 84 Aston Villa
10. 82 Wigan
11. 80 Fulham
12. 79 Chelsea
12. 79 Liverpool
14. 78 Charlton
14. 78 Watford
16. 76 Everton
17. 75 Newcastle
18. 74 Arsenal
19. 73 West Ham
20. 70 Middlesboro

I just wish I had put more on it than the £20 I risked in August.

Still - that's nearly half of the next season ticket.

:D

Does that mean we can beat our own points record?

I took this bet with Victor Chandler, thanks for posting the table as I had no idea how I was doing. I knew Portsmouth would be close though. I am just hoping that we don't fall apart in the last three and they do well as I got us at 16-1 with a tenner on. It's amazing how wrong the bookies got our season in terms of odds.

I've got money on the same with Paddy Power, which looks equally good.

Unfortunately Drogba seems in line to win the handicap top scorers table, unless Doyle can get 2 more than him in the remaing few games (and one more than McCarthy) to net me a nice £250.

Have you got that table? I also went with Paddy Power.

The handicap goal scorer seems odd; I have Doyle with a handicap of +16; you seem to be saying that Drogba's was +18??

I think Drogba was +5 or +6 on handicap with Henry as scratch. So basically with Drogba having 19 league goals and Doyle having 12 then he needs Drogba to not score many more

I suspect that Doyle will play all our remaining games, whilst there was talk this morning that Drogba may be rested for the Bolton game on Saturday......

Thank you.

I was convinced that we would have won the league on this basis and I believe that we have so thanks for keeping track of it and posting it on here... :)
