Worst thing about Sunday's Game...

by seahawk10 » 14 May 2007 08:14

Is that it was the last time to watch the team until next season. So when is the next game then? I hope we get a friendly or two televised over here in the states. I miss this team already!

In order:

Yes.

Next season starts on August 11th (fixtures come out on June 21st)

The Peace Cup might get televised but that'll be about it.

The cricket season will fill the gap for me, hoping for a storming season for Hampshire and a successful summer for England against West Indies and India. Still a shame to see such a great season come to an end though. :( I'm looking forward to August already :D

But likely or not you have to admit it would be a good lay.
Now until 11th August.

Was going to start a new thread about Hahnemann and Blackburn's first goal, but wondered if it had already been discussed and couldn't find it if it exists. But I found this thread and the thread title is probably apt, so I'll hijack it, if you'll forgive me, seakhawk..... ;)

As I already mentioned on another thread, I missed it because my view of the incident was obscured, but I managed to see the replay of it at half time in the concourse.

What do the people of Hob Nob reckon, a legal goal or was it a foul? I reckon it was a foul as Hahnemann was down and unable to stop the ball from being tapped in by McCarthy. To add insult to it, Hahnemann has suffered three broken fingers. How is this right?

In a pub in Darwen afterwards, I spoke to a Blackburn supporter and he seemed in agreement that it was a foul.

I seem to recall from the tv pictures hahnemann was touching the ball and it was taking out of his hand (that was how it was broken). Does it have to two hands on a ball for doing that to be an offence?

I'm amazed that a player can go in on a keeper like that.

It was no better than a 70:30 and the forward had penty of time to jump over the keeper or stop. Instead he chose to go in with his studs up and deliberately injured the keeper.

Keepers need more protection and Nonda is a disgrace and should have been sent off.

I also heard it took the Blackburn medical staff nearly 30 minutes to ask Marcus if he was OK and during that time anything could have happened. From what I heard it hurt a lot.

Marcus will have to wear a special glove all next season, it will be about 8 yards wide and will severely impact his mobility.

I hope the Daily Mail writes loads of stuff about it.

I believe that the keeper has to have control of the ball for it to be deemed as an offence - so technically he might only have one hand on the ball but still be in control of it if it is clasped into his body or indeed pressed into the ground.

If you watch the replay on MOTD it would appear that Marcus is telling the ref that it was an '****ing foul'!

The replay from the left hand side clearly shows that Marcus did have the ball in both hands.

it was definately a foul
and if the ref couldnt see it from behind, or it all happened too fast,
then the goalie should get benefit of the doubt.

oh well

Not a problem on the hijack. The ball and Nonda arrived split seconds apart. I have the game on DVR and have watched the play several times. It does appear that Marcus has the ball right before being ran over. I think a foul was warranted. But I can understand how Wiley missed it. It was a bang-bang play.
