So if we'd have dropped Hunt, Harper, Seol, Murty & Shorey and replaced them with "average" players we'd have not lost 35 points which means we'd have won the league by a point. Coppell OUT!

I don't believe they printed such utter rubbish - according to them Bentley is one of Blackburn's worst players and Paul Robinson is Spurs' - pants!

The whole thing is unscientific rubbish.

According to them, if Man. U. had fielded a team of 'average' players, instead of the quite good ones they actually have, they would have ended up with 91 points less than they got.

Since they ended up with 89 points, the 'average' team would have ended up with -2.

Ignore the whole thing (or demand to know how they do their calculations.)

Seriously didn't someone at The Times think this was gonna make them look like total idiots, they can't carry on with this bollox after these "results".

Some basics of scientific method for the Times:

1. Propose mathematical model
2. Determine observable implications of model
3. Test against observed reality
4. Shamefacedly abandon model

Nitwits!

The latter is one statistic I may be inclined to agree with.

it is just terrible.

some sub-editor must have noticed the england players in the bottom 20 and said ' guys, this chart is a load of crap'

it's so simplistic and bears no relation to how individual players perform.
it seems to be based on results when that player was in the team which is something always commented on in punditry and is just the lamest bit of analysis going.

Was Ivar the only outfield player to play every second of every premiership game last season or have I missed one out?

For us, yes (and not just outfield either, given Marcus was subbed twice).

In the reading side yes.

In the league; Yobo supposedly did according to that website.... don't think we can trust it though.

Five of the worst

Defenders

390 Graeme Murty 59.58% -9.68 Reading

393 Leighton Baines 90.87% -9.85 Wigan

396 Nicky Shorey 97.30% -11.14 Reading

397 Phil Neville 90.78% -11.15 Everton

398 Nicky Hunt 78.98% -11.29 Bolton

Wow...according to that murty and shorey cost us 20 points.

what a complete load of BS.

Look at it this way. If Shorey is our worst player yet he is getting into the England squad. What does that say about the rest of our players!

They must be oxf*rd brilliant. 8) 8) 8)

Well, as Shorey was graded as one of the worst players in the league, using that logic, every team is oxf*rd brilliant. Then...we are average, and we should have finished the season with -2 points.
