the late late show against Wolverhampton.[/quote]

Oh yes, that was even worth being threatened by two no-neck, beer monster Wolves fans in The Spread afterwards. Swindon fans are angels compared with those creatures.

Archie should also be in for being a nice bloke.

Dixon or Senior for me. Dixon had more talent but Senior probably just edges it for his goals to chances ratio.

Behindu ...Senior - who was basically rubbish but managed to fall over at the right time so the ball hit him and went in.

Sorry, but you don't score 191 goals by being "lucky"!

Senior might not have been the prettiest or fastest player to ever grace the game but he was damn good at what he did. His game was not about fancy flicks but getting in the right place at the right time, being brave and being good in the air.

A true RFC legend in my opinion.

I'd agree 100% he was a legend, and glad you agree that he was very good at what he did.
My comment was very tongue in cheek and of course he wasn't lucky 191 times !
But he was a very different type of player to all the other nominations and I always saw him as a bit of a comic book hero - the park player who somehow got a game for a league side and couldn't believe how often things went right for him.

A nice guy as well....

Senior was the perfect player for the style of football we were playing at that time. Branfoot chose to play the long-ball game and there was no better player for that job.

And by the way, Doyle is a quality player, but IMHO a long way off being in the running in this vote.

But I maintain that he could only score with his first touch - ask him to control the ball or beat someone and he'd end up on his arse, but give him a header or a volley and he'd put it away clinically.

But, as has been said, exactly what we needed at the time.

Right, the following have been nominatied:

Jamie Cureton (15 nominations)
Jimmy Quinn (11 nominations)
Kerry Dixon (9 nominations)
Dean Horrix
Kevin Bremner
Kevin Doyle (14 nominations)
Ronnie Blackman (4 nominations)
Dave Kitson (8 nominations)
Trevor Senior (14 nominations)
Robin Friday (10 nominations)
Trevor Morley (2 nominations)
Uwe Hartenberger
Nicky Forster (7 nominations)
Martin Butler (2 nominations)
Robert Fleck
Keith Scott
Paul Brayson (is this a laugh? Is the nominator having a laugh?)
Bas Savage
Jimmy McIntyre
Les Chappell (2 nominations)
Stuart Lovell
Leroy Lita
Ollie Kearns

Looks tricky to decide which player is going to be in the shortlist! Judging from who got the most nominations, the top 8 should be:

Jamie Cureton
Kevin Doyle
Trevor Senior
Jimmy Quinn
Kerry Dixon
Robin Friday
Dave Kitson
Nicky Forster

Bubbling under: Ronnie Blackman, who probably will go into the second poll. Is everybody happy with that?

How about also do the best partnership...

Quinn/Lovell from the promotion seasons when they were bagging goals for fun
Kitson/Doyle
Lita/Doyle
Lita Kitson
Butler/Curo
Fozzy/Butler
etc....

Just a thought

Nice idea, but that's altogether a different poll.

I'd swap Fozzie for Blackman.
Can't be wrong to include our top scorer and it wouldmake this a nicely balanced poll in terms of the eras covered.

1871 Royal I would like to put a certain Mr Forster forward.

Didn't he average about 6 goals a season by the time he left? No way is he anywhere near the best strikers this club has had!

And LOL at putting Doyle ahead of the likes of Dixon and Friday! Little early aint it?
