USA and Convey called up

by glosson » 14 Aug 2007 23:52

Just found this on ESPN.com. The USA v Sweden match is on Aug 22. Not sure if Marcus and Bobby will miss the Bolton and/or Everton matches.
Only 3 players from the MLS on the team

What a change from their Gold Cup and Copa America teams which, if I remember, consistly mostly of all MLS players sans few. Hope none of them get injured or miss many games. :)

The Gold Cup team had more Europe based players, but the Copa America was nearly all MLS people (I remember reading it was to give the Europe based players a breather before their leagues started.)

Good news for Convey and Hahnemann. I hope Hahnemann gets the start over Howard.

Only if Timmy can't play, I've to got to believe.

We've reached the point at which we need to have two full squads for friendlies, at least during the club season --one for guys in UEFA leagues to play friendlies on the continent as Brazil and Argentina already do, and another based back at home to play primarily against CONCACAF opposition and whoever else happens to be passing thru.

Glad this one's with in Sweden and like very much the schedule upcoming, including Brazil here on 9th September 8)

I hope Hahnemann gets the start over Howard as well...if he has a good showing against Chelsea, I'd expect he would. It'll be nice to see Reading players on the world stage...well...not that the world will be watching USA v Sweden, but you know what I mean. It's especially poigniant for me as I work for Volvo :D

Also, we have to remember, euro-teams had no requirements to give up their US players in the Copa America since we were technically "guests" in South America's tournament, and considering both Convey and Marcus were recovering from injuries this summer, i almost dont mind they were left off the gold cup roster I definitely like the idea though of having two US-based squads, one for the europe friendlies (which we'll have 3 of this year), and another for the US-bad friendlies- although it would be fun to see a few of the big names go to the match against brasil september 9

When I read the title of this thread I thought they were going to Iraq.

Sweden's nothing.

I think an extra friendly game would be good for Bobby's comeback as he probably needs to build up his match fitness. However, I don't think Marcus should be risked as he is now back in our first team. I don't want him missing any league games for a USA friendly either! Marcus should be pulled from the squad.

They won't miss any league games.
