About time too, if Ashton and Nugent can get a call up, Kitson is a much better player.

With Cappello naming his squad on Monday i could see Kitson in the line up.

Would be good tho.

Is the game on the BBC?

Will the FA be paying for his taxi to and from Wembley?

Kitson is on record as saying that if he ever got picked for England it would show that England is having a few problems. Given that he's scored as many league goals as Owen & Rooney combined, it makes sense for Cappello to have a look, but although he may have the goal total of those two, he doesn't have the quality. Also, when you look at how England have played recently, with at least three of the midfielders more concerned with trying to score themselves than to set up the strikers, I don't see it working too well.

Saying that, seeing another Reading player in an England shirt would be great, just as long as it doesn't make the Spurs boss want to sign him

The whole year inn There can't be many players out there that started at a non-league club and went on to win England Caps, can there?

Ian Wright and Stuart Pearce are two that immediately spring to mind.

Top striker in Asia (and the world just according to international goal count though) got a degree first and only went pro at around 25 or so? Playing in college teams until then.

I'd love to Kits play for England - he'd do a grand job I'm sure.

If only for the increased media spotlights and more of his "tell it like it is" comments.

New chant every game surely - KITSON FOR ENGLAND!!!!!

It's not just the News of the World

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/ ... 257227.ece

DAVE KITSON, of Reading, and Aston Villa’s Gabriel Agbonlahor are the uncapped new faces in the frame for Fabio Capello’s first squad as England manager, to be announced next Saturday.

Capello will take another week to finalise selection for his baptism in international management, in the friendly which brings Switzerland to Wembley on February 6, and will select a larger squad than usual, as a getting-to-know-you exercise.

One of Capello’s aides said last night: ‘Fabio has watched him [Kitson] twice [most recently against Manchester United last weekend], and he is the leading English goalscorer in the Premier League.’ Reading’s principal striker, who is 28, has scored eight times in 20 league appearances this season. Agbonlahor is 21 and due to step up from the under21s. He is only one goal behind Kitson this season, with seven in 23 league games.

Recognition for Kitson would be the bigger surprise, given the competition and the fact that so few players from unfashionable Reading have been capped by England. Nicky Shorey was the third and last.

Other uncapped players in with a chance include West Ham’s Carlton Cole and Dean Ashton, who would have made his debut before now but for injuries, and Manchester City’s 20-year-old keeper, Joe Hart.

You would hope that a new manager will have new ideas and Capello's past history would suggest he won't put up with any crap regardless of who you are.

I could see Kitson doing very well as a link up striker who could act as a target man as well. Be interesting to see if he is picked whether he is definitely in his plans or just a random choice a bit like Powell was for SGE at the start of his tenure.

Great for Kits - he deserves a chance in the team.

Bad for us - he is destined to move on if he performs well.

I'm not so sure. Excellent for campaigns yes.... but his injury-proneness would make clubs think twice before splashing out fees and wages over a few years for his longer term services.

Plus being the best English striker sadly doesn't mean much thesedays!

There's only been 3 class strikers for England since 1986.

Well according to most on this board, those three don't include Michael Owen, so who are they?

Shearer, Lineker and Ricketts?

On a more serious note, I think three is harsh on Teddy Sheringham, who was vital to Shearer's goals.

England have been in dire need of some intelligence in its ranks for ages.

If you include Sheringham you have to include Bearsley but I don't really class either of them as out and out strikers.
