Ian Wright and Stuart Pearce are two that immediately spring to mind.

Here's hoping Fabio does call him up. Would say Kitson is an excellent team player which is what we need to see at England level, the guy works his socks off everywhere on the pitch and is certainly not afraid to get back and defend when required - and, as the leading English striker in the Premiership, he must at least have attracted some note from the Italian one.

I know what you mean but to be fair they said that about Tevez and Rooney.

Rooney gets a lot of stick for being a brain dead neanderthal but when it comes to positioning and reading situations on a football pitch he's shown a lot more intelligence and nous than people give him credit for.

Totally agree. On the pitch he's one of our most intelligent players.

For Utd it always looks to me like Tevez is the one that's played more like the out and out forward and Rooney left to play more his natural game though.

I've always though that England need to play to Rooney and Gerrards strengths though, and as big a Kitson fan as I am, and as pleased as I am that he's getting some recognition in the media I'm not sure he and Rooney are a natural partnership.

Well done to Kits though. His form is the only thing thats earning the attention as it's not the glamour of his club or the fanfare surrounding a big transfer fee or big reputation.

Through the gloom of the past few weeks has emerged the player that we knew was class in The Championship but had not been fit enough to show how good he could be in The Premiership.
Against the likes of Campbell and Distin he stood up strong and competed and his finish showed the calm and awareness of a potential International player.
With names like Bent,Heskey,Crouch,Ashton and Johnson being bandied around as possible front men for England how long before The Press put forward our man?

In my eyes he has much more about him than the U21 strikers of last season,Lita and Nugent and personally I see only Owen and Rooney as automatic selections and with Heskey injured (and Owen doubtful) who would you pick as the big man to play in a big man/little man combination?
Our man is genuinely two-footed,is strong in the air and has (as they say) a good touch for a big man.

We eventually got Nicky Shorey there so how about "Kitson for England" to show that he has moved on from being just a bargain and only fully appreciated in Berkshire?

Already speaks volumes to me that Capello has been to see us twice in his first few weeks.

When we were playing much much better last season it took about 6 months for McCLOLaren to see us play. Hopefully he's been spreading himself around the other non big clubs as well. England need a TEAM, even if it means going for less quality individual players so that you get the partnerships working across the park.

right back & right wing, left back & left wing, centre backs, central midfield and strikers. Sadly I think that could mean some of the best English players missing out. The likes of Joe Cole, Frank Lampard etc. Not that we'd really miss Fat Frank on recent international form.

I think it would be great for Kitson to get selected, even if he doesnt play. Im sure the whole experience would benefit him so much.

If he managed to play would be even better, and i cant see it being any worse a selection than when Heskey was called up. You've got a player who plays in a similar position, but has a much better scoring record (be it mostly in lower leagues).

He's made the step up before through the divisions, and im sure he'd do it again to international level.

I've been listening to Radio 5Live's Monday Night Football discussion this evening, and they've been discussing Cappello's options. Once again, Kitson is being used as an example of a player thay may deserve his chance. Being the leading English scorer in the Premier League is putting him in the limelight To quote one of the analysts, "You don't know how he will take to international football until you give him a chance"

Especially seeing one of the other top scorers hasn't got more than 1 goal in the last couple of months. Agbonlahor got off to a flier but hasn't really done much since... no idea if thats down to injury or not being picked mind.
