The BBC on its report of our game at Villa says

"It was Villa's eighth successive win over Reading, and James Harper's late strike - slotting home under the advancing Carson - did little to lift the dark mood of Royals manager Steve Coppell.

I'm sure I remember us winning against Villa at the Madstad on 10th February 2007.

Nope. Both our goals were taken away as Sidwell left the club, and Young's shot that hit the post was later proved to be over the line. BBC have got this one right!

Corals bookmakers today showing first scorer market for tonight (v spurs) N HUNT 9/1 on their screens.

I've complained (tbh I wouldn't have normally done so but was inspired by this thread). Manager called their head office and I'll return later to see if its been changed.

Looks like the Mail on Sunday doesn't go to the games but just watches on TV. Their reporter mentioned Steve Harper's attempt near the end. Now where did he get that name?

Watched the Man U game Live via Setanta on Saturday via t'internet, Tony Cascarino was co commentator, he was really into Bobby Convoy I can tell you. Nice one Teny, keep on trucking.

He must have done his research for the official pic's site:

did anyone spot the story in the Mirror on Saturday about Leroy Lita being givena £7 million price tag?

It had a small picture next to it, of Marlon King, the picture next to it was guess what, Marlon King signing for Wigan? I laughed.

Didn't see this at the time, but the Guardian Unlimited ACoN group B preview has a quote from "Reading defender Emerse Faé". Don't know what all this talk about having to sign a defender is all about, now that's Kitson and Fae we've got playing there apparently ;)

Thursday's The London Paper match report. I fully accept that Chelsea ar a)bigger than us and b) a local team, but is it too much to ask that the report mentions one of the two teams in the game just once, or even one of their players?

From "What the papers say" thread:

Far Canal the telegraph

Everton leave Reading on their knees

By Duncan White at Goodison Park

Everton (0) 1 Reading (0) 0

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/main.j ... eve110.xml

<snip>
With just the single-goal advantage, the inevitable jittery finish ensued. The gangly Reading substitute, Jimmy Kebe, nipped in front of Joleon Lescott, only for Jagielka to lunge in with a fine block. Moments later, Kevin Harper thumped in a shot that came back off a post.

Recent signing Jimmy Beke drops to the bench as John Oster is recalled to the team.

"The Royals' best effort in the opening exchanges came when Liam Rosenior crossed accurately from the left only for Sean Long to direct his close-range header over the bar."

That's the BBC again.

BBC website http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_prem/7260392.stm and Ceefax:
Downing was booked late on for trying to win a penalty for the visitors.

Presumably also a sacking offence? (For Downing, I mean. The BBC are clearly happy with that level of incompetence.)

Welcome return for Paul Kitson. 11 years after he saved West Ham from the drop, he's back to help us.

In addition to jagged smartness going forward (Stephen Hunt, James Harper, Kevin Doyle, Shane Long and Paul Kitson
