Schards#2 The Villa V Sunderland result demonstrates why it is so difficult to predict relegation battles. It has a lot to do with the state of mind of the opposition, many of whom have little to play for.

This time of year always throws up results like that so it's dangerous to assume that sides averaging less than a point a game will continue to do so even if they appear to have a difficult run in. Fulham are one more shock result away from being back in the mix. IF they could beat Reading and also win, as expected, against Derby away and Sunderland at home, they would have a real chance.

In many ways, Fulham look more likely to catch us than Bolton as, on paper, it's hard to see Bolton scoring more than another 6 or 7, however, games aren't played on paper and I suspect whoever 18th and 19th are, they won't go down with a wimper and we will still need a further 6 or more points.

As was said somewhere else, Fulham would be in a very different place if they had had a fit Bullard and McBride this season. Having both fit for the run in completely changes their chances.

Our team is continuing to learn and improve. And there's no better time in the season to be winning. If we have players like Bikey who can turn games like yesterday , we shall enjoy the rest of the season. He learnt how to lose defenders just as TORRES did last week. And look who he lost !!

I expect Derby to win a few games between now and the end of the season, same as Watford did last season, Fulham and reading at home are both winnable for Derby.

So, out of the bottom 8 clubs only RFC and Sunderland have not changed their managers this season.

You've never read SMB then.

An outsider looking in would probably find our board a bit odd!

I found the Sunderland lot OK when we went up there to see the mighty Royals many years ago. They made us very welcome, and since then I've always had a lot of time for them.

However, can't stand the current Sunderland manager, and would love to see them go down!

Has anyone noticed how the Sunderland manager looks the spitting image of Iran's President - Where'smydinnerjacket - or whatever his name is.

Have you noticed that you never see them in the same room together?

From Despair To Where? I'd love Sunderland to go down, a town full of delusional halfwits with an inferiority complex who deserve misery upon misery heaped upon their sorry arses. Fickle, whining tossbags. I've known a few Makems in my time and they've all been complete and utter twats.

Merry Xmas to you too!

I've just been looking at Birmingham's run-in and, with McFadden sidelined for a few weeks, it's difficult to see where their next points will come from. Fulham, on the other hand, have a few winnable games that could just see them to safety. The Fulham/Birmingham match on 3 May could decide which of them joins Derby and Bolton.

Whilst glad about our recent improvement in form, I couldn't help thinking about Sheff Utd last season. I thought that they had appeared reasonably safe at about this stage last year but still ended up going down. Checking on Statto.com, it seems that I was wrong about them being safe, as after 31 games they were 17th. BUT, they had the same number of points as we do now and had climbed to 15th after 36 games (with 38 points). Unfortunately for them, they didn't get any points from the remaining 2 games and went down.
So, no complacency yet please!

Indeed - but to b honest I can't see any of the current bottom 3 putting a run together like West Ham did. I still say 36/37 points will easily be enough for survival this year.

Agreed. Tevez saved the Hammers almost single handedly. None of the relegation candidates have a player capable of doing that this year IMHO.

Eh? We won't, but we could.

We won our last game and there are seven left.
