I will mind a lot more if we go down next season....because it will mean we haven't learnt our lessons from this year!!!

Depends on what lessons you mean? We could still learn a lot but struggle.

Wycombe Royal
Tinrib
Wycombe Royal Where on earth did I allude to that?

I don't come to the Madejski to watch the opposition players, I come to watch Reading regardless of who they are playing against. I want us to win matches and entertain in the process, if that is in League 2 then so be it.

As for competing in the Premiership, yes we do with the teams around us, but that isn't enough for me. I don't want Reading to just be making up the numbers in the Premiership I was us to be competing with the top teams in which ever division we are in, if that is in the Premiership then great, if not then that is great as well.

You might as well jack it all in now then...

Nope, you've completely lost me now.....

I think you were lost long before my post..

Relegation hurts! I don't recommend it! I've endured 2 in the past 20 years thank you and don't want another for a while.

We've had nearly 10 "good" seasons (play offs, promotions, play semi's, nearly in the play offs, and nearly in Europe!). In the 5 years we've succeeded in my "personal" goals (promotion, championship, not getting stuffed out of sight a la Sunderland (of old) and Derby (this season) and then staying up (okay we haven't quite got that one yet!). I'll settle for a nice mid-table mediocraty next season (in the Prem) and time to draw breath and convince people we're here to stay. Then I think we'll attract better players and (maybe more importantly) more money men/investors and then hopefully win a trophy (FA, League, Championship, I'm not fussy!). We need to look at a serious trophy win (not Simod, or play-off or lower league championship) to make believe REALLY believe in us!

Why on Earth would anybody care? It's only a sport.

I enjoy seeing my friends on match days and would continue to do so whoever Reading might or might not be playing against. I fear some people may be taking it all a little too seriously.

OK, whatever you say......... You don't agree with my opinion that's fine, but don't bother trying to read more into my comments than is actually there.

If I was to read further in to your comments I would come to the conclusion that you only want Reading to stay in the Premiership so that you can see the likes of Ronaldo, Rooney, Torres, Fabregas, etc strut their stuff on the Madejski pitch, but I would be very surprised if that actually was the case.

I'd mind simply because.

Then I'd mind because it was so avoidable, IMO.

The sooner we play the honest Joes of Aldershot, Oxford and Swindon on a regular basis the better.

READING ARE A PREMIERSHIP TEAM.
Any premiership team would mind being relegated. :)

Shaka With the prospect of relegation still looming large, does anyone mind if we get relegated?

We're not exactly going to win the league and will need a heavy investment just to finish in the top ten.

At least if we got relegated, we'd have a chance of winning something and enjoying some away games for a change.

Do I mind if we get relegated? Do I mind? You cannot be serious!

Anyway Shaka, your post reads like all the arguments for relegation. And I don't think you would make your namesake very proud.

Numbnuts, what a stupid post!!!!

Answering the question merely gives it credibility.

Er.... agree its a dumb post, but then "Answering the question merely gives it credibility" - hang on, you've just answered it, ergo you've added to the stupidity of its credibility... but you think its stupid, but... my brain hurts.

Stop.

OK. What sort of fan doesnt mind if his team is relegated from the best league in the known universe? For oxf*rd sake, what a stupid post. Answering it.... oh, hang on a sec.

The answer is of course we oxf*rd mind - end of thread

Dirk Gently We don't compete in cups because they might jeopardise our PL survival, and we're never ever going to have a chance of winning this league, so what are you hoping to win?

Every game.
These two words tell the whole story for me. There is no PL game we go into that isn't a huge challenge, and there's no game where I think we have no chance.

Dirk Gently
Tails For me its a resounding yes. Why spend your whole life fighting to get to the premiership and reaching the pinnacle of english football and then be so ready to get relegated. Peoples anwsers well inevitably be defined by their level of ambition, being a bigger fish in a smaller pond...or a small fish in a big pond. Tell me, how many times have we actually 'won' anything when we were in the lower leagues? a championship? the simond cup?.......

So how long do you expect it to be until we're challenging the Big 4 for the Premier League title, then?

We don't compete in cups because they might jeopardise our PL survival, and we're never ever going to have a chance of winning this league, so what are you hoping to win?

Haha, I never mentioned competing with the big 4

As already stated and was implied in my post, we have NEVER 'competed' in any of the major cups, we have never (in modern history) won any 'significant' trophy and for all those thinking that it would be more fun trying to replicate our championship winning year.....the reason why it was special is a) we have never done it before b) no-one had ever done it like us...thus EVEN if we were to try and replicate it, it will never be like it was the first time round, and the likely hood is as realistic as a top 4 finish (well you get my point).

The arguments suggesting we dont compete in the prem is pretty woeful, its like when a kid plays above his age in school football, he'll never be the best kid but he sure gets more out of it then just playing with his peers and friends. How about aiming for a top 7 finish, the possibility of european football as the next 'big step', even if we only achieve it once in 7 years in the prem, it would be worth it. Fighting in the prem, even if its to stave of relegation is the hook, should Aldershot aim to give up after their year in the football league? of course not. Why have we suddenly grown into a fanbase that hates being the ultimate underdog/unfancied team and most tipped for relegation...when we have been pretty much this all our history...well that or mid table mediocracy...its astounding. Go support swindon, your attitude deserves it.

Mrs B, as for a reduction in STs....come on, you can just see it....'we will 'freeze' the prices'....or 'we have decided to increase them as you are getting extra games for your money'

I'll still be there every week, so no.

But I do mind that we've been naieve enough to think you can progress in the Premiership by spending peanuts.
You may get away with it as we have done for two seasons now but you can't survive like that for long.

I'm sure we'll stay up this season but next season is a worry.

Yes. If we get relegated it means fewer chances to watch the team as they would fall off of Fox Soccer channel almost completely. And I would be left to watching on the internet almost exclusively.

Well Yes, I mind.

I kind of understand the No s - it would be good to be in a league we could win, lower prices etc -but remember what it was like in Div 2? Barely a mention in the papers, a sort of 'good for you' from the majority of people for supporting your local club rather than any interest/banter, and occassionally you got to see the goals on TV.

Now the coverage in the papers is excellent (even one of the freebie evening London papers includes Reading as one of the 'local' teams), people at work seek me out for banter before a game -and they usually know enough about our players to have a decent chat, and every Saturday you can watch the majority of the game on Footy First. And every win is harder to get so it feels fantastic.

Relegation - Pah!

For the Nos - don't worry - we'll be back in the Championship before long. But in the meantime Whaaahhaaaaayyyyyy!!!!!! Enjoy!

The thought of spending the next xxx years trying to stay up! why bother, if you love football you love it being cheap(sic) being on saturdays / Tuesdays / evenings (you get the idea) not whenever SKY what it, you love meeting up / having a few beers / screaming from the stands / winning some / loosing some / supporting your team.

Whats the prem done for us ? am i as a supporter any happier ? not really, Litas overhead goal will take some beating + plus a load of others. Being in a league we can never win? Hoping for the odd draw against a top 4 + team ?

Me! better a big fish in a little pond than a minnow in a Ocean..? Chinese philosopher or summat !!
