Are you suggesting we replicate Portsmouth? They've just announced (I believe) a £24m loss - which is clearly nearly as much as their total Sky money for the year. If we spend the sort of money they have over 2-3 seasons, we might get into Europe, we might get to the FA Cup final, and we WILL pay the price 'A la Leeds/ Sheff Weds/ Leicester/ Coventry etc' very soon afterwards.

Sure, we need to invest, but don't underestimate insolvency. It would hurt as longer and harder.

Now there's a post I can agree with.

call me an irresponsible bollox but i prefer good results on the pitch to good results on the balance sheet

The economics of that attitude are going to cause some clubs some serious harm. Foreign investors are getting into the Premiership because they smell the money, no other reason. That's why they're rich. But the big money is limited to a very few teams. Even Chelsea can't get the global exposure Man U and Liverpool do. Man City and Portsmouth will never recoup the investment. The Asians market just doesn't care enough about them. The current business model will not last, and clubs run on good business principles will be left standing.

size 12 For reference, this is what Bolton still have to face, in their quest to get three more points than Reading:

Middlesboro (away)
Spurs (away)
Sunderland (home)
Chelsea (away)

Compared to Reading

Arsenal (away)
Wigan (away)
Spurs (home)
Derby (away)

I can see them getting a maximum of 4 points from that lot, meaning a win at Derby will be enough for Reading. Therefore my prediction is that we will stay up with 35/36 points

The Cauldron of Optimism...

There's a problem here, we wont beat Derby!!

Looking at the Bolton run and ours, I can't see either of us getting a point next week. Bolton will draw at Spurs, we'll draw at Wigan. They'll beat Sunderland whilst we'll draw with Spurs. Meaning a 1pt gap going into the last day, Chelsea will beat them and we'll get a point at Derby. Meaning unless Fulham get 8 from their last 12, we'll stay up.

One of the teams they have is Liverpool, as do Birmingham. We need Everton to get something against Chelsea on Thursday, otherwise a CL place will be done and dusted for 'Pool and they'll start playing their reserves in league games. That's two teams cancelling out our win against the redscouse for sure. Fulham did it last year, and they'll do it again on Saturday, I reckon.

Dont agree. I want Chelsea to play Bolton on the final day still in with a chance of the title....I dont want it to be a game where there is nothing in it for them

Fulham definitely the danger in my view rather than Bolton - they'll beat a weakened Liverpool team at home just as they did last season.

Yes I remember that Liverpool performance last season....I hope they dont repeat it again on Saturday or your right Fulham will be back in the mix.

I'm not sure how weak Liverpool will be this weekend, RB has been talking of winning that game and getting 4th over and done with, so they can focus on the CL.

Best news I've heard all day

Pompey A

So, Fulham are at Pompey a week for the FA Cup Final.

I'd be less than surprised if a desperate Fulham beat a Pompey team with Wembley on their minds.

It would hurt as longer and harder.

it's a fair point but let me put this to you and please don't answer with the panic Leeds 9/11 answer......do you think pompey fans are enjoing their season more than Reading's fans?

if you max out your credit cards and buy loads of things, you can enjoy yourself a lot more than people who live within their means.

There is one tiny problem with doing that though. Do you know what it is?

Chelsea drop points to Wigan tonight in a below par performance, the title race could well be over before they play Bolton on the last day..if they reach the CL final theres every chance they will rest most of their big names, bloody bad news all round

Wycombe Royal Another key thing for Bolton is that they have Kevin Davies missing for their next two matches. He is crucial to their style of play and are likely to struggle in an attacking sense without him.

We on the other hand could be missing all our strikers and it wouldn't make a single bit of difference.
