Gordons Cumming Watching us surrender against Fulham

Worst day of the season by a long, long way. Bolton home in 2nd, West Ham home in 3rd.
I don't think I've felt worse this season than after the Fulham game - purely because it was looking like we were getting out of it, and a good result would surely have pushed us towards safety, but to me the worst overall was the West Ham home game.

We were so comprehensively outplayed by a team destined for midtable that I knew we could be in big trouble this season. It was a performance that had relegation stamped all over it.

All of it, with the exception of the win over Liverpool.

Got to be losing to Fulham. Worst defeat at the worst possible time and one of the few we could approach with any sort of confidence.

the Fulham game

when i arrived at the ground i could forecast nothing but a home win, and we rolled over to a team that hadn't won away for 18 months

Pretty much agreed.

On the boards: the utter inability to accept, from about June, that we were going to struggle. I would cite an "I told you so" thread created when we were 6 points clear in either November or December but who know where it is now. Equally, the pricks getting their fishing trips in. Because that really helps matters as well.

Shane Long's excruciating miss in the last few minutes away at Birmingham - when all he had to do was control it and knock it in but he tried to be flash.

If that had gone in we'd now be 4 points ahead of Birmingham and feeling just that little bit easier.

Losing to Bolton while they were being coached by Sammy Lee.

And Fulham's first away win for 56 years. And being the wrong side of the highest scoring game in Premiership history. And then scoring 4 away from home and losing again, at Spurs.

I wouldn't know where to start with the stats, but I'd venture no team has ever scored 4 away from home and lost twice in the same season.
