interesting

by Drew_3 » 10 May 2008 09:11

Fulham's Dejan Stefanovic says his side "will be lucky to get a point" in their must-win relegation decider against Portsmouth on Sunday. "It is a squad which can just about survive, if they are lucky," he says. "There isn't a lot of quality." (The Sun)
honest comments or just trying to fire his team up for the last day?

I don't honestly believe that you slag your own team off to fire them up. I wonder if this isn't one of those interviews with a journalist back home that the player thought would never see the light of day. Unless he is leaving after Sunday in any case and doesn't care. Either way it's "not a good look" as they say hereabouts.

He says lack of quality. I'd take Bullard, Davies and McBride over Harper, Oster and Doyle respectively.

Another 2 interesting paragraphs of note from the BBC. The first is at least a positive start, the second a little insight into how much money 'little old' Reading has pocketed in the last 2 seasons. (Quote is from the Derby vs Reading review)

"Portsmouth are unbeaten in five Premier League matches against Fulham (three wins, two draws); the Cottagers have never won a top-flight match at Portsmouth in their history."

"But the Rams will pocket £30 million for finishing last, plus two Parachute payments of £11.4 million per season. It totals £52.8 million, and means they are averaging a minimum of £4.8 million per point so far."

Mind games. They have far more quality than we do!

True, but the issue isn't whether or not they have more quality than we do, it's about whether they have more quality than Portsmouth. And they just don't.

So if we go down, we will have around £55-60m in Premier League revenue to spend over two seasons. Won't be much excuse not to come straight back up, tbh.
