RIP. Very sad news. Best wishes to his family.

wrong place at the wrong time when he got the Reading Job. came with huge expectations and totally unsuitable for the role. Conducted himself very well when he arrived though.

RIP Tommy

Before he signed as our manager he stood on the South Bank the night before too see if we were passionate or not. He heard the noise and was persuaded!

See, it was only a game on Sunday.

RIP to Tommy, apart from here he was a very good manager, I can't believe I was alone in being excited when he joined us, just somehow found himself completely out of his depth in the 3rd tier of English football

I was so sorry to hear the news that Tommy Burns had lost his battle with cancer. I don't really want to say anything about his time here at RFC but I do know he is a Legend at Celtic.

RIP TB

He didn’t set the world alight whilst he was here, but was well respected at all levels in the game, as a player, coach and manager. Part of Reading’s history, and a very sad loss indeed.

Agreed-really decent family man and always ready to talk to the fans.
Unfortunately he had no real grasp of the English game (same as Craig Levein at Leicester) but did his best for our club.

Agreed, though I always thought if we'd got him when we first tried, which was when Bullivant came IIRC, then he would have done a much better job.

Last manager to lead a side out at Elm Park, and the first at the Madejski.

RIP Tommy.

Perhaps they are just slow updating, but have to say it is surprising that there is nothing on this on the official site.

Yes, I remember that. He said he stood at the back on the right side of the Bank. Anyone recall the fans forum that had to be relocated from the Rendezvous to the South Bank because so many people turned up?

He was passionate about my club and his heart was clearly in the right place, and he was there at one of the pivotal moments in our history. Just a shame it didn't work out.

Rest In Peace.

As I recall, he also said that he'd sampled one of the pies - I'm surprised he agreed to stay after that!

I think this might help Murts get his life back to some sort of perspective.

I was fortunate enough to meet the man and did a little interview with him in my younger days for the young royals. A true gentleman who will be sorely missed by the whole game!

Thank you for Murty, and my online nickname.

The rest, we'll overlook this time.
