Todays Papers

by The 17 Bus » 15 May 2008 10:55

Lots of bits about tuesday, quotes from some old fart in Lower Earley, luckily no pic.

Also a couple of interesting bits about the players, from T John on the HNA page. Cutting comment about Shane Long...
Shane Long is little boy lost in the big worldHe was taking driving lessons when he came to Reading, then he got an Audi sport and now he has a new BMW four-whell drive. Motoring seems more important than performing on the pitch

Same as Hunt and Doyle- nice new Porches

Sorry if this has been up, but have not kept up with all comments on HNA, this was on the HNA page with Nick Ive.

meh, I work with people who can afford cars like that and they don't earn anything near what a footballer earns.

There are far worse things they could be spending their money on.

Sadly it is the attitude behind the players that this raises questions about, flash cars for Premier stars, looking to keep up appearances, ask Murty and some of the other players what this says about attitude. Not the car per se

'greed. One major undoing this season has been the fact that our success was built around all the players believing they were Reading footballers and their priority and mindset was based on that togetherness. This season it has become apparent that there are many who now see themselves as Premiership players first and Reading players second thus losing that vital edge we had in previous seasons.

 Find something real to moan about.

How many of you have talked amongst yourselves at home/at work/in the pub or anywhere about either coming into money or winning the lottery and what you would do with the money?

Pound to a penny the first thing out of everyone's mouth is "pay off the mortgage, move house and buy that big shiny Aston Martin I've always dreamt of".

Why would these - or any others - be any different? The fact is, they can do it at 21-22, the vast majority of us can NEVER do it. It's not like it's a new phenomenon, is it?

READING could lose four mainstays of their team following relegation.

Stephen Hunt, Nicky Shorey, Kevin Doyle and James Harper are summer targets for Premier League clubs.

Sunderland boss Roy Keane is a big admirer of Irish midfielder Hunt.

West Ham are eyeing left-back Shorey, while midfielder Harper and striker Doyle could attract attention.

Ibrahima Sonko and Emerse Fae, banned by the Royals for refusing to play for the reserves, also want out.

I can't see Harper going. He's bright enough to know that he's got a first-team place here and would just do a Sidwell if he went to a bigger club. I think Doyle may also feel loyal to the club after being played throughout his goal drought. I can see Shorey and Hunt being sold though.

IMO I believe Steve Coppell knows exactly which parts of the squad need pruning, the problem is will it be a few clips here and there or out with the chainsaw, and im sure Mr Coppell would like to know if Mr Mad will be supplying any new parts before he decides whether to take it on.
I read in the paper ysterday that USA was very unhappy with out of contract players not pulling there weights, I was wondering if he was talking about himself.

Nah, Marcus said he wants to stay and i'm pretty sure he pulled his weight.
Hunt has told an Irish newspaper that he won't be looking for a move and that he appreciates what the club's done for him and he's happy here.

It's a travesty that whenever a club gets relegated the players who are responsible move away, when the season has just proven that they are not good enough to play in the Premiership.

Crossie I would love to see Steve Coppell stay and do the job, he knows the players, imagine getting a Big Sam in or someone of that ilk. Could be turmoil and then the players might start leaving.

That's a bit pointless, I thought he's had his license taken away for a couple of years.
