readingbedding Why would you have a press conference to say he's retired from RFC.
It's the most obvious thing ever that he's staying.

Well, I could see the club giving him a press conference to thank his properly for all he has done for the club. The club pride themsleves in doing this the right way, and a public 'Thank you' is not totally out of the question.

There have been a few example of Managers leaving getting a press conference to say they are leavin, especially long serving ones....Remember Warnock had a press conference to announce he was leavng Sheff Utd, Howard Wilkinson had one when he left Leeds...Even Hoddle had one when he got booted from the England job.

I still think he will stay, but it really could go either way.

Not sure why they'd need a press conference if he's staying, but I suppose it's publicity for the club and will generate lots of hits on the official website.

hiro less than 3 hours to go now.
Is there any way that I can watch or listen to this press conference via Internet?
Or can any of Hob Nober be there to make a report to this site?

Looks from the BBC website as though you can listen in on BBC Radio Berks, hiro:

This is it - it's good news and will put the club into the minds of players/agents when we try and buy them, by making out that Coppell staying is superb news and that the club is going places etc etc bla bla bla!

I hope you are right, and my thoughts sway towards him staying as well....but until the Press conference is over we can't know for sure.

I reckon it is Coppell Staying. However there could also be changes in other areas of the background staff. Also, with the Kit photoshoot done 2 weeks back I'd imagine they would be coming out in the near future. I seem to recall there was a press conference before on a day that a shirt design came out and the boards behind those in attendance had the new shirts on them, obviously to help publicity for sales, with all the publicity of Relegation, Fans getting behind Coppell and the will he/wont he story being in the press for last week, it is like a soap where people wish to see the ending, therefore massive exposure for the Club.

The Club has known since Thursday that he made a decision to stay.
Obviously the Club has sat on this until today, bring it out at the beginning of the week.
Behind the scenes it has been business as usual.

Worst case scenario - Coppell out Lawrie Sanchez in. I think if that happens I may just give up on life and slit my wrists.

Thankfully the chances of that happening are about 0.00001%

From BBC Sport:

Reading have called a news conference for 1430 BST to clarify Steve Coppell's position as manager.

Following the club's relegation from the Premier League, doubts have been raised as to whether Coppell will remain as manager.

He has previously held talks with director of football Nick Hammond

"I had a very clear meeting with Steve. We need to digest and reflect what has happened," Hammond recently told the Reading Evening Post.

We will continue to talk and keep in contact with chairman John Madejski."

Hammond added: "Of course we are disappointed with what has happened but there is nothing we can do about it now."

Coppell, who has been in charge of Reading for nearly five years, guided the Royals to the top flight two seasons ago and to a magnificent eighth-place finish last year.

However, they were consigned to the Championship after the final day of the current campaign, Fulham's victory at Portsmouth rendering their victory over Derby meaningless.

Coppell has 12 months remaining on his contract and the Reading board want the 52-year-old to plot an immediate return to the top flight.

Chairman Madejski said the club would "be doing everything we can to keep him".

I don't know whether the Bold bit is about Coppell or Relegation. Hoping it's more about relegation than Coppell.

Are RFC fans naturally nervous.
Reading snippets into the BBC website...
Of course Hammond was talking about Relegation!!!

Why can't people see that this is just a Press Conference to confirm that he's staying?

Surely a clear indication that he is staying was on Monday, when the club announced that they were releasing players and giving Little and Doobs new contracts?

If Coppell was leaving, surely they would wait till the new manager came in and cast his eyes over the players he wanted to release or keep and not the club?.

Or am i talking rubbish?

SC is on holiday in the far east according to Radio Berks. As for players, do you think those descions had been made before the end of the season? It must be difficult to tell a player well hang for a month or so and if we do get a new manager he may offer you a deal or he may not, i think many players would want their future's sorted out as soon as possible after the final game of the season.
