Lets face it, Little joined on a free, has done bugger all the past two seasons, has been offered one final year of security with an over inflated pay packet. Little has summed up the modern footballer . . . . .take the money and sod the club!!! . . . . if he gets 10 games over the next season i'l be gobsmacked . . . . he wont be though because he'll still be paid !!!
Good ridance little

He might have missed a chunk at the end of 2006/7 but he played most games up to April. Certainly did more than "bugger all"!! Foolish and inaccurate statement.

Whilst I'm sad to see Little go as he's a great player, I don't think it's actually a bad thing.

It means we absolutely can't hide from the fact we desperately need a new right winger, it leaves Kebe and Henry with more chance of football and to develop and it removes (presumably) one of our bigger earners, who was also one of the most injury prone.

I don't think it changes anything. Most of our best players are still under contract, most have actively come out and said they would be happy to stay, so unless we get a lot of big offers we'll be keeping them. If we get a lot of big offers and sell a load we'll have a big bundle to spend on replacements. Ok we may want to forget about promotion for a couple of seasons if thats the case, but I don't think it will be.

Who'd begrudge a player taking probably their last chance to play in the top flight of English football? I certainly wouldn't

In the two Premiership seasons (76 games) he made 18 starts, one of which lasted just over half an hour and 8 sub appearances. Make of that what you will. The short story, though, is that losing a 32 going on 33-year-old out of contract player who played less than a quarter of the last two years because of serious injury would not generally be thought to indicate the start of an exodus. But who knows? I'm neutral-to-negative on exodus, and think that Little's departure adds nothing to the evidence.

The whole Little situation reminds me a bit of Nicky Forster. Seems we're having the same arguements on here again. A hugely popular and influential player but maybe the timing is right for his departure. Much as I'm disappointed to see him go, after a long period out, and at his age, there were no guarantees that he would have the impact we wanted. I think he deserves a final season in the bigtime and that will never diminish the memories but I can only see him as a squad player at Pompey.

It's a gamble to lose him but we did alright without Forster, who's to say the same won't happen again?

There were those predicting the demise of Reading Football Club when Cureton left, and when we released Adie Williams but they were wrong.
Of course past performance is no guarantee of the future , and I'm aware that Little's departure is seen as symbolic rather than the loss of a genuinely key player.
But we'll survive....

I don;t see how people expect us to rebuild the squad without saying good bye to a few old friends

Royal Rother I just don't understand the pessimism - it just doesn't seem logical.

Your eyes need to be opened to a few things RR, there is being optimistic and then there is being pure blinkered. You said all of last season we should trust coppell and trust the club and that we " wouldn't go down" and all those suggesting we would were " idiots", do you know what happened at derby? Have you admitted anywhere that you were pure and utterly wrong?
The club doesn't have ambition, thats been proven. No big name signings in two years of prem football and a squad going to be far worse than the one we were promoted with. The club is on the decline.
The one thing that i'd hoped for in our premiership stay was that we could attract good young players, top championship youngsters looking for prem football and provide a good future if we were relegated. We've gone down without a single young player signed from a championship club or another premiership club, not one. We've done absolutely nothing to suggest we are going to be competing for a promotion place next season. If the speculation is true and we are going to lose harper, hunt, shorey and doyle, etc, i'll be very happy if we manage to avoid relegation to league one, I genuinely mean that. With the clubs transfer policy we will not bring in players anywhere near that quality. I hope for the teams sake that all apart from shorey stay.
We went up when we had momentum. A young, hungry, well managed team who wanted to taste the prem. Most of those players now have different personalities and some will move on. Next season is a rebuilding process where we are going to have to get those sort of players in, plucked from obscurity as no established players will join us. If we can avoid relegation and bring in some of those players i'll be optimistic for the following year, thats what i'm hoping for.
People can look into little's transfer as many things, for me I think he kind of feels that the club has had its happy times and a lot of his mates have gone and are going, we've ridden the wave of success and gloomy times await. That said, it could be purely money and the chance of prem football, even a combination of all the above. No one will really know.
I am looking forward to next season far more than I was, I want to see what sort of fanbase we have now all the media spotlight and premiership theatre is now over.

Why make that assumption ? Why not accept the reasons Little himself has given ?

Because in this day and age players are programmed to say the same old crap, not even worth watching the interviews.

I'm not the person who has been proven wrong by his comments all last season RR, just stating facts mate.

" people who are suggesting reading will go down are idiots, there are 3 worse teams", something along those lines wasn't it?

Where is the logic in suggesting that Coppell will sign worse players than he did when we had less money in the Championship last time?

Of course it MIGHT happen like that, but it's totally illogical to to say that the transfer policy means it WILL happen, when it was the transfer policy that brought those players in in the first place.

I don't think I said that at all, but if you'd like to spend your evening having a goold old search through my posts, please be my guest. You will of course be amazed at the number of thought-provoking, insightful and incisive comments I have made over the past year in amongst the occasional inaccurate prediction; however you will of course fail to admit that...

It wasn't the fact you made an incorrect prediction. It was the way you handled yourself all throughout last season with people you branded as " negative". You were offensive, petulant and patronising to almost everyone who suggested we would go down. You weren't alone though, there were plenty of obnoxious RTG's who have since been silent or tried to back turn on their predictions. At the end of the day the " pessimists" were right, both the manager and the board were clueless failures last season in cementing our premiership place and failing to take advantage of our funds generated. Not only that, they've built absolutely NOTHING towards our future.
We are going to loose a few first team players and we'll hear the same old spin when no one joins us this summer either. " hard to find the right players", " got to be the right players with the right personality". No guys, it really doesn't, we can't afford to be that picky. Find a good player and buy him, simple as that.

Care to deal with my question about your logic now?

Given that he was offered the chance to play in the premiership and in Europe, on higher wages than we were offering him (I would assume) is there anyone who would have expected him to stay? I'm sure if Portsmouth hadn't offered him a deal he'd have happily signed for us again, but at his age it was a chance he couldn't really turn down.

Parents raised me to respect those value's, shame yours didn't.

As for logic, it's based on the last two seasons. Plenty of money to spend, not one decent signing. Two years we could of taken advantage of our situation and brought in youngsters or prospects and didn't. Why would the championship be any different now we are in a weaker position? Can't understand your logic there.

What values? (Note the lack of an apostrophe - it's plural you see.)

And please, 2 years we've been telling you, it's could have, not could of.

Parents not so strong on the old basic grammar I guess.

And no, I don't find it surprising that my logic is beyond you.

Patronising enough for you? (Sorry, I just have an allergy to your posts. Note, the posts not the poster.)
