Its reasonable to expect 40-50% of the initial fee to go on a replacement... he's gonna have to do something. As of tomorrow we're going to have the shortest collective set of forwards in the country...

5.5 million, money is available for Steve, even though we must have fortune in the coffers anyway. bye Dave.

2 technical players gone now, only need to sell Shorey and Matejovsky now then we are left with a load of spastics trying to oxf*rd a door knob

£5.5m... in the pocket now? No performance based add-ons? Stoke don't have to stay up?

Not a bad price really, considering his age & experience. I want to see £3.5m of that go on two newbies in the next week or so... but you don't always get what you want.

There is no sell-on clause to Kitson's former club Cambridge United and Director of Football Nick Hammond added, "Once Steve Coppell had decided that it was in the Club's best interests for the deal to be done, it was my task to generate the maximum income.

"This has been achieved and the money is now available for Steve to strengthen the squad as and when he sees fit."

Really surprised that this went through. And i am gutted. He was - clearly - our most regular forward, at least Lita will be guaranteed a place to start, maybe he will be lazy(ier) now?

Good luck to him, really hope he does well, i'll be keeping tabs on him!

Oh and well done Hammond for getting such a good fee!

Bigger daylight robbery than the Darren Bent transfer. Well done Hammond if he didnt want to stay he has negotiated a ridiculous price for us.

Full credit to Stoke ... they are paying real money for quality players , something we should have done last season . Reading wouldnt have paid 5.5 million for anyone

couldn't agree more and if anyone else doesn't want to stay they can get lost now too!i only want players who want to stay, as im sure coppell does, he will invest of that i am sure.

That Friday Feeling

All of the money or just some of it?

And, incidentally, 'strengthen the squad' should mean replacing Kitson with someone just as good and more. If not, the squad has been weakened.

Echoes of 1995 - all we need now is the 2008 version of Meaker to be signed in Kitson's place!

Stoke are keen to show their fans that they have 'real ambition' and 'can compete effectively' at PL level, therefore they are bound to 'big up' the fee they have paid and keep quiet about any conditions attached to it.

Reading are between a rock and a hard place. No doubt they aren't happy about the world of football hearing that they have another £5.5M in the bank but to talk down the amount received will lead to greater criticism from their own fans over letting one of their real stars leave.

Or maybe he means the stable door has been opened for the rest of our decent players to bolt through!
