Huntley & Palmer We can open this up if it actually happens

Slightly over-officious moderation IMO - wanted to say so at the time but couldn't as the thread had been locked!

Afterall, what is wrong with having a tribute thread to a player who is still with us but might be transferred!

cheers for the memories Dave, just a pity that you were a total home player and most of the time f'ing useless away.

No doubt people will say West Ham, but I won't forget his winner against Newcastle after an injury plagued first Premiership season where he jumped into the crowd and it looked like we were on course for Europe.

I have to say Kitson is my hero and ever since he scored that double past West Ham. A true legend who I'm really gutted to see go, and other of the strikers would have been better to leave imo. Still I realise his the the older of the lot so in many ways it's a good move for him, though I expect Stoke to come straight back down and below Hull. Always spoke what he felt which I loved.

Thinking about this, that yr he was injured, we played better passing football when it was Doyle and Lita up front whereas last year when we were crap and playing long ball, he was there all the time. This could well be a good thing for the club.

Good luck Dave, will miss your presence on the pitch a lot

Agree totally. This happens with fair regularity whilst vicious insults go unattended. H&P revels in his role. (I bet he's 5' 6" and a traffic warden.) Worst mod in the history of the universe.

To be fair when we inexplicably dropped Kitson for Long this season we still played long ball, but I agree with most sentiments there.

Great memories. My son got USA's shirt that night. (Sold it on Ebay for £5,000.)

A true fan.

I'd be surprised if anyone was stupid enough to pay £5k for a shirt signed by one player. If that was the case, I could sell my Martin Butler number 9 shirt signed by all the players in 2003 for about £50K!! But I wouldn't sell it , ever.

No, I was just messin' around. I guess it would fetch around £150. Wouldn't sell it even if it was £5K, though.

Cheers Dave, it was great while it lasted. Best of luck for the future.

Random fact: Before this year Stoke City's record signing was.....

Brynjar Gunnarsson - £600k in 2000

Ryan Shawcross last season cost around £1m, and I believe Leon Cort was £1.2m.

When talking about football people usually use a "football" year and not calendar year. Anyway they signed Sambegou Bangoura for a fee reported to be around £1m in 2005

The Legend has gone and it hurts, thanks for the memories.

Our first prem goalscorer, we have lost a 20 goal championship player and will be hard to replace you Dave.
Out of all the players we could lose this year you were the one I felt would be loyal and also the one we could not afford to lose with your attacking ability but also the defensive side of your game.

I know in football nothing stays the same forever but my little old Reading, which I love has now lost one of my all time Reading hero's and am finding it very hard to get up for the season ahead not seeing you in the blue and white shirt again.

Thanks again Dave for the memories and who will I get on my shirt now maybe kanu?

Human beings normally use the word "year" when they mean the period betwen 1 January and 31 December.

It was quite obvious from the context that he meant this year and not this season. Nice attempted wriggle though.

No wriggle. People quite often use the word year to mean the season when talking about football.

Oh and I still showed the fact was incorrect.

Well my Dad's bigger than both of yours, so you can both put your point-scoring charts on the floor so I can stamp on them.

Jesus Christ.
