TheMaraudingDog Too many people seem to be putting ability as the most important factor in becoming a legend.

In my opinion a player can only be considered a legend at one club. Some of the players listed are more famous for playing elsewhere, some hardly played at all. A solid 6 years service is needed in my opinion.

Ruud Van Nistelrooy – A United great, but not a United legend.
Ole – A United decent player, but a legend.

Time for you to rethink.

That rules out Cantona, shame that, thought you lot loved him as well.
Time to eat your words bucko.

Maybe not 6 years then but you associate Eric with United, he played more games for us than any club.

Ian Royal seems to think that a wonder goal is enough to get legend status.

Half the players listed you'd associate elsewhere so not sure how they can be considered 'Reading Legends'

Yeah, I don't really pay much attention to that fellah.
He's that RTG/STG zany crazy guy.

There are some players that were Legends at different clubs.
Maybe Kerry Dixon was at Reading, he certainly was at Chelsea.
Kenny Dalglish was, Zidane too and maybe Maradona etc, etc.

Also, it is true that until recently anyone who could play at a better standard of football did leave us.
Certainly the majority did, perhaps my fav Michael Giles was better than us, but was loyal. But he's a Legend in my eyes.
Can't really go much further than Manchester United, probably 3 or 4 clubs.
So RFC fans' version of a legend would be different from Manchester United's, two totally different teams.

Stuart Beavon?
Steve Richardson?
Dean Horrix?
Neil Webb (did any RFC produced player ever play more for England?)

TBM My "hero" when i was a boy watching at Elm Park was Craig Maskell - i used to sit near the tunnel (up the back) and i was always there early and waited by the tunnel just to see the players come out, Maskell had a little routine of ruffling my hair when the teams ran out and always came and said hello before the game/during the warm up :D

Tilehurst End Dictionary definition:

noun 2. star, phenomenon, genius, spectacle, wonder, big name, marvel, prodigy, luminary, celeb (informal) megastar (informal)

Kind of narrows it down a bit. Robin Friday, Steve Death maybe. I'm not sure people will be sat in a pub in 20 years time talking about the great Darren Caskey, James Harper etc.

unfortunatly thats whats called a thesaurus :)

Do I? Nice of you tell me. I certainly didn't think thats what I was basing it on. Strange that Lita and Quinn arn't in my list of Legends seeing as they've scored two of the best goals I've seen from a Reading player.

Silly billy.

Senior up front. Also, whatever you feel towards him now, the first Reading player to play for England in about 50 years deserves to be remembered as a legend.
