Nicky Hammond

Wasn't there a time Arsenal were interested in him as their director of football? He clearly has respect in the game. Did he not negotiate us £5.5mill for Kitson before another £2mill for Sonko, 2 deals that for me are brilliantly ripping off Stoke (They've paid £2mill to concede 5 penalties and 4 red cards!). Has he not also been DIrector of Football for almost 10 years, the most successful 10 years in our clubs history. For me 2 words sum up Nicky Hammond on here, scape goat.

Well said. Its hard to find any real evidence of anything Hammond has done wrong? I get the impression some people on here would rather players play for the club even when they express to the manager that they don't actually want to.

10 years? :| I remember he was made Director of Football after Pardew's betrayal. That was in 2003, so he's only been Director of Football for 5 years. Before that, he was Director of the Academy. I think.

Hammond seems to carry the can for SC's cautious approach to the transfer market. Fae surely was a player that Coppell wanted so it's not Hammonds mistake. Players are not appearing to leave RFC for less than the going rate. Sometimes more. Credit to Hammond.

People have questioned Squeaks ability to attract the big names but at the end of the day players will make a decision on the club depending on the number of £50 notes thrust under their nose. Squeak works for RFC, not West Ham of 2007.

On the other hand it would be interesting to know what Big Sam was putting under new recruits noses at Bolton.

Must be one of the more frustrating jobs in football.

Dealing with Coppell and JM every day must be a pleasure!!

No thats an urban myth probably started by NH himself. Like Arsen Wenger is going to work to a D of F who was not good enough to make the grade with them as a player. Also if its true can you name the person who got the job of Director of Football at Arsenal when NH turned it down? You cant can you.

If that's that case, then he is the man we want for the job as his media connections must be huge to get the myth spread so far!

Can't see as he has done anything wrong at his job, got the best money he can for players who wish to go play in the Premiership.

It is true that nicky does seem to pull off some decent business for players going out, but how about players coming in, particularly over the last season and the current campaign.
