As I and my family used to live in the North for the first 18 years of my life (and I am back oop North again now) - I have been to many more away than home games over the years. Some of my memories:

First game - Preston 1 Reading 1 April 1992 - 50 Reading fans (we counted) - Senior scores late on to equalise. We go mental.

Low: Probably Tranmere 6 Reading 0 1998 - we got to the ground at half-time - it was already 5-0! See also Stockport 5 Reading 1, Sheffield United 4 Reading 0 in the same season. I also hated the journey back from Sunderland last year when we lost 2-1 - went on my own and faced 4 hours on the train contemplating the fact we were much more oxf*rd than we were the year before.

High: Hmm difficult one this - I loved the atmosphere at the Stockport-Reading (almost title decider) in April 1994. Our end was packed we came out with a creditable draw - I hardly saw a thing as I was 13 and tiny.

Also see Tranmere 1 Reading 3 - May 1995. What a team! Hartlepool 1 Reading 4, Blackpool 0 Reading 4 in the promotion year.

A special mention must go to watching Bradford Reading bore us all (i.e 200 or so) to tears in a 0-0 years back on a cold November midweek evening.

bottom left hand corner Man Utd away in the cup when we drew 2-2 that was a good away game. We was loud and made United fans frustrated.

Well, they talk about good support being worth an extra goal but I have never heard of good support being worth an extra goal to both sides.

Thanks Floyd. I was starting to think I was going mad!

My bad 1-1

middlesborough away stands out for me- our first away win of the season and the scenes were absolutley wild when we scored in the last minute, i still remember it so clearly and then the 200-300 loyal royals who hadnt given up on reading winning away sang as loud as that amount of fans could ever produce. INCREDIBLE!!!

and also another one that sticks out is fulham away, great away support, shame about the result but i enjoyed every minute of the game and we stood up all match :D

Brentford 1-1 away has obviously got to be in there, i fcuking loved Jamie Cureton and practically wet myself when he got the equaliser, cool as you like. I also painted my face and looked like a complete tw@t. Happy days 8)

A couple of lows that stand out
Rotherham 5-1- what an aboslute pile of turd!
Bristol City 4-0 - we were already losing when I got there and it just got worse

Ooooo, a few memory joggers here:

The re-arranged 1-1 away at Stockport midweek was excellent. Geordie toe poking home and Adie out jumping Kevin Francis all night.

Tranmere away in play-off semi. I trashed Parky who was sitting next to me when Nogs scored the first.

The Taxi for Terry game - awful night, but wry humour in the Cuckoo Lane end. The most inept display I have ever witnessed from a professional football team.

Hartlepool 4-1 away. Mick Tait and all. Yarm took a battering.

Blackpool away 4-0. Great result. Great team. And, well, it was Blackpool away. At the weekend.

Peterboro away Darius Scoring twice in the last 5 mins, Pards kicking off with the Posh fans.
Brentford away for obvious reasons.
Oxford away at the old Manor ground and winning 2-0. the game where a Steward got hit in the face with a pasty

Win some, draw some, lose some, RFC modest football team and club, NUFC, a byeword for all that's wrong with footy. Even the neutrals would probably agree, or would they?

Fulham away, despite the result.

Good pubs, relaxed stewards, great accoustics - top performance from the blarmy army.

Brentford away obviously, I was in line with the ball as Curo lobbed the ball in- cue us away fans going absolutely bananas :D. Also Bristol City away, how can anyone forget 5,500 RFC fans taking over a good end and half a side of Ashton Gate? We won 2-0 to boot, I remember walking back to the car which we abandoned virtually on a roundabout somewhere!!!!!!! My mate had his car towed which cost him well over 100 quid to get out of the pound. On the journey back down the M4 we even sang along to Celine Dion`s "Think twice" at the top of our voices  , crazy away days eh? One other away day that sticks in the memory is Southend away about 94/95 I think, we lost 4-1 and the RFC fans were chanting "Otto is a murderer" and of course he stuck 2 goals away for them!!!!!!!!!

NUFC on that December night was quite a night. Not least for the fact we needed binoculars just to see the end closest to us and a sherpa with oxygen gear to get up to our seats. Seemed to draw us all closer together though, and the team performace was pretty good after the first half hour, only really ruined by bad officials.

Biggest laugh, Stockport (1-5) back in 1998. Got to the point of hoping we'd concede more and got quite depressed when we didn't - and then went and scored

Oxford away a few weeks after that was quite spicy, esp. as we all finally broke and went for the manager and team big time.

The Brentford game was something special for all the right reasons esp. as I had this feeling right from kick off we were definitely going to score.

Also remember Bournemouth away (L1-2) back in 1994 when we had the end behind the goal plus an entire side and didn't care a jot about the result!

Maybe it was because I had spent most of Christmas day on my own, but the Boxing day Chelski game was a great day out. We were at the peak of our "punching above our weight phase", and it felt good!

I loved seeing a comment afterwards on cfcnet saying we had taken the piss out of them.

Happy days!

It's also probably the one game I would have loved us to have won if I had to choose one, apart from relegation/promotion games. Could have been one of our greatest results (considering their home record) and we came pretty close.

In addtion to the Trannies, Stockport and Oxford classics, here's a few personal faves....

Exeter 93-94 - win 6-4, a fantastic game, 4-1 up back to 4-4 then two late strikes

Port Vale 93-94 - 4-0 up at half-time LOL

Rotherham 93-94 - drew 2-2 in a midweeker, only a couple of hundred hardy Loyal Royals there but what a sing-song, all match, brilliant

Charlton 94-95 - won 2-1, moments before kick-off Keith McPherson and Dylan Kerr strolled into the away end and sat with the travelling support, five minutes in and Osborn scores his best goal of an amazing 2/3rds of a season, get in.

Sotoke 98-99 - won 4-0, stood in shocked disbelief at the brilliance of McKeever and the clinical genius of Jimmy McIntyre's finishing. That thumping noise that you all heard was the sound of Royals' fans chins hitting the floor in amazment.

More recently....er....Southampton away, drew 0-0, completely outplayed, out-classed even except for one player who defied the biggest team in the South on his own.

One of my favourite away games was definitely the 2-0 v Leicester (the season before we went up?). Tense game until a screamer from Sidwell and a goal from Ingimarrson gave us the points, and I remember just a fantastic atmosphere throughout. Think it was also one of our best away performances I'd ever seen. Same applies to Man City away (06/07), similar story, same score!

loyalroyal4life Bit surprised at the praise considering as unfortunate as i am saying it, there is a reason fans consistently chant to us ' your support is fcuking shit '
