Mitchell Bryant scored for Basingstoke again today.

Had the pleasure of watching our boys at the Rec today;

Scott Davies - Really really good, box to box, won tackles and excellent passing.
Ben Hamer - Conceded a needless penalty but looks very competent
Alan Bennett - Too good for League 2 but not as good the guys we have got

Well done boys.

Looks like Gylfi Sigurdsson had a very good game for Shrewsbury today: http://www.shrewsburytown.com/page/News ... 90,00.html

Can't make the Donny game on Tuesday but am only 30 minutes from Accrington so might go and watch Gylfi instead.

Saw Gylfi today.

A little nervous with his first touch, but quickly grew in confidence. Good short and long passing, and tried to direct the Town players where to pass the ball. His vision was spot on in that respect, but they often ignored his suggestion.

Held central midfield position well, but still chased up and down without looking like he was at all hurried. Right position for the tap in first, then he also kicked the third at the same time as the Captain who claimed it. Technically 1 1/2 goals! Hit a cracking left foot shot from the edge of the penalty area that hit the crossbar. Looked very comfortable at League 2 level, but they did give him loads of room.

Being a bit more realistic than B&A, there are clearly things he needs to work on. Bikey needs to teach him how to jump for a header. He also relied on marshalling the player out wide when defending rather than tackling. When he would sometimes put his foot in it wasn't in a committed way. He also seemed a bit reluctant to take the ball on himself and passed rather than having what seemed to be a good chance of taking the shot. That may be him settling in though.

On the whole a pretty good first league game and he reminded me a lot of Webby when he was on the ball.

I almost felt like a proud mum watching and hearing all the positive comments that were being said around us! :D

Our boys at Southend also got another win today - from the fans forum

http://www.shrimperzone.com/vb/showthread.php?t=44708

Federici. Saved us two points when he won that late one on one. He gives the defence the confidence they need. I'd have him down as our MoM today.

------

Federici 7: Wasn't as good today as he has been, mainly down to his distribution not being anywhere near as good or quick. Made a couple of decent stops though.

Robson-Kanu 6: Same old from HRK. Flitted in and out, one moment of decent play, followed by 15 minutes of anonominity. And repeat.

You lot must have some serious quality in your stiffs if Gylfi Sigurdsson can't get a game. The boy really is some player!

He hardly has any first team experience, and CM is our strongest position.

He'll be in our team in 2 years I reckon. Out of all our 19 year olds I think he is the 1 who has the potential to become the best.

Debateable. Karacan is 19 and is an established first team player now. Don't see Gylfi getting into the squad tbh.

6 months ago you'd have said the same about Karacan!

Harps is rumoured to want away. Gunnar is old and slowing up. I see Gylfi in this first team in the next 18 months or sooner! Coppell talks very highly of him too, as one of the handful of youngsters catching his eye this year.

Karacan atm is a better player no doubt. However whenever i've seen Gylfi play he's had so much class on the ball. He just needs to strengthen up and get some experience.

Sigurdsson is a special talent from what I have seen. RFC seem to be protecting him more than Karacan for some reason. I suspect because Karacan is so fit as SC said recently but in the long run I suspect that Sigurdsson will be an even better player having watched him 3 or 4 times in reserve/ youth games.
