brendywendy a siggurdson karacan midfield in 2 years time actually looks pretty good to me

if we are in the prem by then i am not sure
would rather have matejovsky in there
in a couple of years siggurdson should definitley be in the first team squad and pushing for a regular place though

I quite rate Sigurdsson as it happens.

I think he'll blossom with a bit of toughening up in the lower division but he has real ability on the ball, a little Simon Osborn like in some ways, but it might take him a bit more time to come good because of his style of play.

We almost lost this thread .... just thought I'd promote it a bit up the list.

Fed appears to be on his way to legendary status at Southend.

It´s great we have so many good youngsters coming through. Karacan (established), Henry, Sigurdsson, Pearce, Church and Bignall all very promising.

So Reading´s Academy is clearly producing results. A friend told me that Sigurdsson rates Eamonn Dolan very highly and he said that Eamonn is one of the reason why Reading are producing so many young talents. Eamonn was also successful when he managed Exeter but does anyone know more about his career and how people rate him at Reading?

We now have 16 players out on loan - even greater than the maximum of 15 we had out on loan at any one time last season. I wonder if this is a record for a Championship club?

Anyone remember this gem from SSC:
"Yes, Ben was fantastic, but I'm all against the loan system. The whole thing is wrong. You should start and finish a season with the same players. The system plays into the hands of the big clubs. If you have to have loan players they should only be those without first-team experience."

Wonder if he hates the system so much now that he seems so good at working it?
Just think we could have still had Fae grumping around the place otherwise...

Was he not referring specifically to the loaning of players between Prem clubs?

A bit different from giving young players experience of first team football at clubs in lower leagues.

Personally I think that loans should only be allowed to clubs in a lower league than the one you are playing in (or from say abroad). It seems a bit mad that we can loan Lita and Pearce to clubs in the same division. These players get bedded in and may well become important to those sides and then cannot play against Reading when we play them.

Arguably this gives us a better chance of beating both Norwich and Southampton so the loan system is inherently unfair and gives Reading an advantage.

This is what SC was referring to last year about loans from PL club to PL club and I quite agree with him BUT now we are doing the same what he said does smack of hypocrisy.

He has always said he didn't like it, but he saw no reason to disadvantage Reading thorugh him bein stubborn, so he uses it anyway.

Lot to watch on telly this weekend. Nicholas Bignall has been given the OK to play for Northampton at Leeds on Friday night (Setanta)

Ben Hamer and Alan Bennet have also got the OK to play for Brentford at Havant & Waterlooville on Sunday afternoon (ITV)

Scott Davies is also cleared for Aldershot v Rotherham on Saturday.

Nick Bignall came on as a 2nd half substiute for Northampton against Leeds. Came on as a lone striker before being shifted out to the left wing. Nothing spectacular, showed good burst of pace in injury time to chase down a lost cause.

Gylfi refused permission to play for Shrews in Cup.

On a lighter note, he's getting driving lessons round the stadium car park after training from one of the Shrews players.

To be fair Coppell isnt really going against what he said before. With the exception of Lita and to an extent Federici, all of the players out on loan are gaining experience. I do agree though about stocking up talent at PL level by the bigger clubs and then just dishing out those players to rivals in that league i.e. Ben Foster, that almost feels like bending the morals of the loan system. But at the end of the day those player just want to play football I guess.

Alex Pearce gave a penalty away from a handball but the penalty was missed.
