As all the rest i'm well happy about the news but, with some degree of intrepidation, as contracts in football now are not worth the paper they are written on, i do although hope that with this new contract we can atleast see him here in the next window so that will go ways towards enusring the push for prem stays on track.

At a guess, he's agreed to stay to the end of the season, but there's a not extortionate minimum fee release clause for the summer if we're not promoted.

I'd like to say I'm stunned that people can see this news as anything other than Doyle commiting to the club, and vice versa, for the foreseeable future, but honestly nothing surprises me on here any more.

Great news I reckon, roll on another hat-trick on Saturday

Great news but does this definitely mean he won't go in January? If so then it's wonderful news!

howser That certainly shows his commitment to the club and also allows them to adjust the "release" figure so, and I am as Cynical as most, while the outward news is encouraging inwardly I suspect its a case of RFC covering it's tail come January, but I must say that I have never heard of Doyle making waves to get away maybe he is one of those strange players who is, dare I say it "happy" where he is ? if so we should have him stuffed and mounted ouitside the ground when he retires !!

It's pretty certain that Doyle is not happy where he is in terms of playing in the Championship, but he's happy to be at Reading if Reading are competitive to get back to the Premiership. The wise attitude would be either he's a top drawer Prem player and thus worth over 10m, or he's a second rate PRem player like Kitson or Shorey in which case he's as well off at Reading (assuming we get promoted) as anywhere else.

Contract extension = more pay in exchange for a raise in the desired fee for a release clause = Premier clubs paying a fair whack extra in terms of January transfer fee = good business.

It doesn't necessarily = Doyle's commitment to staying at Reading FC in the long term.

I'm sure he won't go in January now! If he did want to go in Januray why would he sign a new contract?
He said in his own words, on the OS, "i hope that signing this new deal will take away any speculation surrounding my own future and allow me to focus totally on achieving my own and the club's ambition of returning to the Premier League at the end of the season." I don't think he's going anywhere!
This bit, from the OS will put to rest the worry and uncertainty to whether he'll still be a Royal come the beginning of Feb.

True, but it is much better than not signing an extension before Jamuary impo (in my plastic opine). And as Baines said, I really think this ties him to the club through this season and if we do not get promoted he will have a smaller release clause.

I think it's fantastic as it not only allows him to block out speculation of a January transfer, but he now feels that the club considers him a key asset.

There will almost certainly be a transfer fee release clause. It's good news and not so good news. If we don't go up this season we will lose Doyle in the summer and this new contract only ensures we receive a higher fee.
John will be pleased.

I think that Doyle's put it more eloquently than any of us could do in that OS link.

Does it mean he's going to go in January?

I doubt you have....

Players preparing to leave a club don't sign new contracts. It doesn't guarantee he'll still be here but it's a positive sign.
