Little snip in today's Guardian;

Nicky Hammond, Reading's director of football, pointing out that it could be significant that many of those clubs are unsure of their top-flight status. "If you look at the table, because it's so close, any team in the bottom half is vulnerable," said Hammond. "Therefore a manager, a chairman or a board might decide it's better to spend £5m to £6m now if it protects a minimum of £50m next year."

Hammond, nonetheless, admits that his discussions with other clubs suggest "there will be limited spending in January and that player exchanges with cash adjustments will be something that people will be looking at more closely than they've done before." Those deals are often the most complicated, however, with transfers often breaking down because one of the players feels that he is being restricted in his choice of club and pushed into a move.

KC Royal Sunderland is an option but im sure i read that Everton will be holding off on any transfers until the summer.
Everton will be after a striker now that Yakubu and Saha are out long term..... Doyle maybe.

Given the current climate I expect January to be fairly quiet for all clubs, certainly Reading will do naff all apart from perhaps moving a couple of fringe players on (and, currently, I would put Lita in that bracket) and/or agree further loan spells for some of our current youngsters.

I don't expect any of the current mainstays to move on - summer maybe but none in January.

Aparently Saha is better than first thought, and should be available next weekend. Heard on a Radio 1 "Newsbeat" earlier.

Ben Watson would be a waste of time - no need to add strength to our reserve bench at this point.

What risk is there to Doyle in the playoffs ? Whether we made it through them or not he'd still be a Premiership player at the end of it. Playing for us in the playoffs is infinitely preferable to another Premiership relegation fight.

Yes, because clearly he's doing a terrible job just like you predicted and Derby are the team to beat.

+ i hope they don't but they won't.

Coppell will be here until the summer- that's the only 'person' you can be sure will be at Reading come the beginning of February :roll:

Shunt will stay imo. Doyle is the one who we need to worry about losing. Doyle and Agbonlahor up front would be sh*t hot!!!

better still why dont we go a step further and replace him with Keano,we can fulfill your desires on spending,spending,spending with little in the way of long term gain..........
