Snowball SERIOUS QUESTION

If Hunt is still here (but where is his head?)
should he play v Wolves or will he be a liability?

More interesting will be the reception he gets and how that may affect his performance - still even if he gets the bird, his performance won't be any worse that what we see from Harper week in ,week out! :D

Amazing a thread that has absolutely no relevance to Harper at all can still get people posting how shit they think he is.
Only stating facts :)
Great set of facts!!! I beleive it's called 'opinion' or 'know absolutely nothing about the game and thinks he knows more than Coppell'

Drop him to the bench. Kebe on the left and Tabb on the right. Or Tabb on the left Kebe on the right. Bob's ya uncle...

Spurs make last-minute bid to hijack Hunt move
Hunt was believed to be close to completing a £5m move to Wigan last week.
Sunday January 25 2009

Tottenham Hotspur are expected to make a late move for Ireland's Stephen Hunt this week and Harry Redknapp's side are now favourites to sign the Reading player.

Hunt was believed to be close to completing a £5m move to Wigan last week but on Friday Reading denied that they had received a bid for the player who has an escape clause in his contract allowing him to talk to any club offering that amount.

Hunt was believed to be preparing to leave for Wigan who were looking to spend, having sold Wilson Palacios to Tottenham for £15m.

But Redknapp made a move after he once again publicly criticised his players following their extra-time victory in the Carling Cup semi-final against Burnley at Turf Moor last Wednesday. Redknapp said he needed more "character" in his squad and that is a quality not lacking in Hunt who may be tempted by Spurs despite their precarious league position.

Reading remain excellently placed for promotion but Hunt is eager to return to the Premier League this month and will now have a choice of clubs.

Despite reports linking the player with Manchester City, Hunt's team-mate Kevin Doyle is unlikely to move in the transfer window which closes tomorrow week. While Reading are forced to allow Hunt leave the club, they will not consider any offers for Doyle as they try to return to the Premier League at the first attempt. Doyle has scored 17 goals for Reading so far this season but he is expected to remain with Steve Coppell's side until the summer at least.

City will, however, complete the signing of Shay Given this week when Newcastle United accept an offer of £7m for Ireland's goalkeeper.

Looks like more paper speculation dressed up as fact to me.

If we've categorically said of friday there hadn't been a bid then as far as I'm concerned there hadn't been.

I'll repeat what just about every person I've spoken to on the subject has said.

Hunt will be gone by Feb.

606 Thread Title: Stephen Hunt comment by salvadorsanchezRIP (U3904473)

I never used to rate him until I see him destroy us at the Lane last season in the 3rd round.
He was the best player on the pitch that day by far.

Good energy, will fight for everything and is pretty quick too.
Would be a decent aquisition.

He is the perfect example of balancing the squad. He may not be a fancy player or have shown top class quality but he will give the likes of Modric and Bentley(these two are as good as anything outside the top 4)the platform to go and express themselves.

Hunt---Modric---Palacios---Bentley/Lennon

Is a very strong midfield. Hunt and Palacios can do the donkey work so to speak(although Wilson has shown outstanding ability of his own)and let the toehr two more attacking players go and cause havoc and release a little bit of pressure off them.

comment by TheManFromTheLane (U13756268)

I agree with the poster above - I never rated him until I saw him at the Lane last season. He certainly did rip us apart that day and he's performed to that level for Reading this season. Better value for money than Downing imo.

comment by salvadorsanchezRIP (U3904473)

He certainly answered the "where's your caravan?" chants in style that day!
One of them annoying players that always seems to be at the centre of everything bad, well controversial or good things that the opposition team does!

5 million in todays game is practically nothing too.
I have a feeling if we miss out on him, he will go to either Wigan or Everton and play a blinder for the remainder of the season.

Cudicini, Palacios, Deofe, Hunt and Jones would be great business by the club this window if it happens.

comment by mattspur1882 (U13664941)

He's horrid, look what he did to Cech

the approx is in there for good reason: if two clubs are bidding for a player whether there is a clause or not there is a possibility that the fee could be higher. It's referred to as market forces...

just to add the sooner we get Hunt off the payroll the better as his wages which I shan't divulge are relatively speaking ridiculously high for a player of average ability, who hasn't performed for many months and who blatantly wants to leave....

Not really, we can't refuse £5m, so why would a second club offer more? It still comes down to contract offer to the player.

The only question that I see, is how that £5m is required to be paid, upfront, partially upfront and partially installments, if so, how much upfront etc etc.

And I still can't see confirmation Hunt is going anywhere in the comments of a bunch of internet spurs fans.

One can only hope that the quality of any inside information at your disposal compensates for your limited understanding of the game in general.

I know when he signed his new contract last season, that he was the second highest earner in the squad behind Doyle. Harps was getting paid a lot as well

Strange, as myself, and some other board members have it from a very reliable source that he doesn't want to touch Wigan with a bargepole and is hoping for Spurs to come in else he's sitting tight til the summer.
